Don't know if you've read the books, but in the books Geralt is constantly getting accosted by people who've heard Dandelion's (=Jaskier's) songs about him and Yennefer and all of Geralt's deeds. It's a fantastic piece from the books executed well in the show.

That explains why the story makes zero sense if you just listen to the song. If you were a villager trying to follow the song you would be very confused about what happened and why the dragon was suddenly an old man giving love advice and where the sorceress came from and what in the world it all meant. Makes Way more sense if Jaskier only had hearsay to go off of.

I was talking about that very scene you were referencing under a different video like _yesterday_ as I thought it was really funny they took a jab at the way a lot of people complained about season 1 :P how he "didn't realize it was different timelines until verse 4" etc, LOL. I was asking if anyone else noticed that scene, because it was definitely a light jab at all the complaints about season 1. "with the golden rules" should be pointing on same part in book, where Villentretenmerth (our dragon) says that golden dragons are no danger for humans cose they know there is not many of them. And are the only dragons that are able to live among humans without them knowing. If I remember correctly, havent read that part in long time. hope it helped

I took that as just referring to the dragon's morals in a catchy and rhyming way. As far as I know in the source material they make a lot more about him being very much a 'good' dragon and teaching his newborn (who they defend as an egg in the fight scene) to care for others, be helpful etc. etc. which I figure is where this comes from.

Considering that Joey Batey is a geek like Henry Cavill, the lyrics may have been influenced by the short story. I remember that the golden dragon set rules to fight him as if it were a knight versus knight single combat. Those could be the "golden rules", I think.

Thank you everyone for your responses! If I remember correctly, Joey didn't write lyrics for this season's songs, he only co-wrote music? I am disappointed with the songs and music in general in this season, tbh, and the fact that there's no concrete answer for the meaning of this song makes me sad, the lyrics aren't very good. I hope the season 1 composer comes back for season 3 or they hire somebody else. Joey is, as always, a legend and performed the songs brilliantly 😍
