The golden palace S2 episode 1 Part 1

Dorothy visits the Golden Palace for the first time and reunites with Blanche, Rose, and Sophia after four months. Dorothy is shocked at how hard Sophia is working at the hotel, although Sophia does not consider this to be an issue. Dorothy contacts her husband Lucas and decides that Sophia should come to live with them in Atlanta.

Very true. I think it’s why the show wasn’t a great success. The Golden Palace needed the entire Golden Girls cast to carry it. I think they also needed to reflect the 90s era more in the new show.

Yes it’s weird. I wonder now if they’d have kept the format and done a Two and a Half Men thing and just replaced Dorothy if it might have worked. The format change was just too much. Gone were the cheesecake round the table and instead of ladies enjoying retirement you had them waiting tables. Too much for it to be believable.

The storyline of Golden Palace never made sense to me: why would three ladies of a certain age buy and run an hotel? They had a comfortable life in the shared bungalow (I believe by the end of Golden Girls it was no longer just Blanche's house and they all owned it equally), and the didn't need the money, so why take on something that was such hard work?

The Dorothy have a nice Day scene does make me remember Maud too much. I think it was a mistake even though B is absolutely great in her scene. But I wish the writers had found out another ways to turn the goden palace into a complete successful show with or without B but they failed. The show was not as much fun as the golden girls. You could sometimes tell the actresses were playing their part. On the contrary they had found a way to be 100 percent natural and so relatable in the GG. One of the best show ever !

Also that's not that strange. People who don't date as much usually make deep emotional connections with someone when they do eventually find someone, thus more likely to commit. People like Blanche have a harder time settling down, so they are more likely to just "play the field" for as long as possible.
