Liszt wrote in fingerings where he didn’t want performers to cheat. In the Mazeppa he wants you to play 2-4 throughout for the sound it makes.

In this, the Hungarian rhapsody no2, fingers 1-4 are permissible according to the original score

I worked on the Hammerklavier fugue with a teacher who showed me some hand switching that was passed on to her. This was for extra clarity, although one could play as written without much difficulty

do u have a recording of ur playing???

Perhaps we could make a mechanism, perhaps accessed by another pedal, which makes notes strike on both the way down and up for really quick bursts, ala tremolo picking. Would be much more economical movement

Well, as someone who can play this (although of course not perfectly), I really would like to know how she would play the next few bars with the melody played in octaves by the right hand :D I actually prefer playing the C# with 4,3,2 because it is, at least for me, a bit easier and more comfortable to play.

That's a bit trickier but I do okay with alternating the order of the repeated notes. For instance, octave=() () 2-3-2-3-4-3-2 () 3-2-3 () 3-2-3 () 3-2-3-4-3-2 () () 3-2-3 etc. It's confusing at first but with isolation and slow practice, it gets quite easy.

Unnecesary, technique should be capable to play everything in a natural way. LONG LIVE TAUBMAN

The best technique won't save you from the worst piano. You can't force a piano to produce something it's incapable of doing.

@andresruval I would never play the 2nd rhapsody on a shitty piano. We have to be realistic about what we play and on what do we play it

I studied Taubman with Veda Kaplinsky. Unfortunately, my piano does not have the action to do repeated notes. I’m currently playing Alboroda del Gracioso by Ravel but the repeated notes do not work on my piano. My piano technician took a look at my piano and he told me I need a better piano and that I can blame the piano for not being able to execute repeated notes. He says it’s not even worth regulating. The hammers are all worn down flat as well.
