What's so cool is the level of ubuntu - the guards, the miners, the demolitions, the crushers and the sifters. The spaza guy! Like everyone gets their cut - their own company without the registration. If that guy is selling bread at R50 a loaf and R11 a gwaai, he knows they must be pulling in good money every day to afford to spend that.

"life was nasty, brutish and too short" in the state of nature. underground life of the Zama Zamas reminds me of that. The relations underground are self regulated, laws of the land do not apply in this order of things. As I see it, the underlying principle is that of self preservation, it matters so long as you live. One good Industrial practice evident here is the division of labour. That is very smart, just realising that they need one another to maximise production. Still dangerous, I can safely say 'this is a man's world' no matter what the world wants humanity to believe. A man will always be a man and a woman a woman. Reality check at it's best. So long as it puts food on the table, a man will do it. These are my main men in whose mind fear resides not and does not form part of their vocabulary. Man of Steel. God bless you all

Interesting about dagga and rules for use underground. In my youth I did a bit of research for a thesis on Eurocentrism and dagga. I found a discussion in Parliament about the Chamber of Mines condoning dagga use amongst Black workers and setting three periods per day for dagga smoking breaks to increase productivity (South Africa, 1975; 1983; Hansard (House of Assembly), 21 March 1983, col. 3048).

I believe it is crucial for the government to legalize and regulate this industry, ensuring that miners receive fair compensation for their strenuous labor. It is disheartening to see their efforts go unrewarded, as certain individuals are reaping immense profits from their hard work. By implementing appropriate measures, the government can rectify this disparity and provide miners with the just compensation they rightfully deserve. It's illegal what they are doing but you feel for them. I am sure there is no one who wants to see them go to jail or punished.
