COLIN C. THE GEORDIE HISTORIAN

COLIN C. THE GEORDIE HISTORIAN

Күн бұрын

Taking a walk down Memory Lane in Chester le Street. I have so much info and so many photos on my Chester le Street Facebook History Group. So I thought lets get some of them on video. I am not old enough to remember every view of the town but I do remember some of them. Hope you enjoy this little look back to how Chester le Street used to be.

Just a little tear in my eye for this. Wish I had a time machine. This is where i`d go. Here and Grange Villa.

Wow what a collection of great photos - this shows that it can be quite strange what other people choose to share on social media, specifically, I have never seen photos of the old War Memorial before. The Bridge End and Market Place area has constantly seen changes over the years, at one time there was a lovely small grassed area and small shrubbery and flowered areas - why is it that those who change these things are totally incapable of spotting when they have things right and they should leave well-alone.?! So annoying in many ways!!! Thanks for sharing and the soundtrack that goes with the images. My favourite is the one of Northlands Roundabout, which again I had not seen before with the old single-deck bus, but particularly it is a marker of the changes that have taken place, not only in that area itself, and of course, the video shows the vast changes that have taken place across Chester le Street as a whole! Thanks again !

Thank you again Neil for talking the time to comment it is much appreciated. The photo at Northlands Roundabout is one of my Favourites. I could not believe when I found it. I still love Chester le Street now but back in the day it was so much better. Cheers Again

I use to see Chester le Street out of the window of the buses from places like Hartlepool and Stockton to Newcastle at the time joint United and Northern services.I don't think that I have looked around although my aunt had a pub in Birtley just north of there.

If my memory serves me right when I lived in Chester-le-Street my childhood till my teens I seem to recall it was called the "Sombrero",there was also a fantastic Steak Restaurant nearby called Jays steakhouse.Parents took me many times to that restaurant.

Maybe Sombreros...the key club in Birtley was Soo, Soo, taccy....black walls and the smallest dance floor, you really would ONLY dance with your mates coming home from Newcastle Friday night out...Liddle Towers, related to Miss Towers, French teacher at Lord Lawson
