I just watched the whole series, at least what is up on YT. I have followed the Watersons, Martin Carthy , Ewn MacCall, Peggy Seeger (Pete & Mike, too) for my entire adult life. I have collected trditional songs since I was 3. No kidding. At 84 I am still teaching many of them when I can get a group. Much harder since Covid. I love the wonderful stories, which allow us a window into history. This series is precious, please don't ever take it down. Frankie armstrong's Tam Lin is fabulous. Ewan once said that the ballads require as much from the audience as from the singer. He akined it to doing shakespeare. Oakland CA

folk clubs in the 1960's to eighties were full of young people, even at the time when arguably the best of modern pop and rock was being made . Where are they all today ? At 68 I am one of the youngest at our local folk club. The music is going to die of none of the younger generation is interested.

I am interested. it is the hippies and eccentrics you want. Unfortunately no folk clubs anywhere near where i am and never heard of such a thing. i cherish it at home

What a treasure. But so sad this chain of transmission of folk tradition has been broken.

Doesn’t have to stay broken

Thanks for posting this great video. I have never seen it previously and knowing the BBC, especially here in Hull where English tradition is anathema to the likes of Peter Levy on Look North, such a programme will not be made again.. Great memories of the Bluebell in past years. We are all getting on in years and as someone remarked the other day, "He is taken them off our shelf now!" At least those to come will have recordings such as this to refer to. All is not gloom. Looking forward to the first Whitby Folk week after lockdown!. I still have a sweet hope and glory in my soul!
