@@dustinmichel7608 According to what I read about this film, Sergio Leone wanted Henry Fonda then Charles Bronson for this part, but both rejected Leone. Then Clint Eastwood suggested to Leone he use Lee Van Cleef. Leone was skeptical thinking people wouldn't accept him as this character after For A Few Dollars More. But Leone said the more he thought about it, the more he thought it would work for Van Cleef to transition into this part. Eastwood came up with the name Angel Eyes.

You know what I like about this movie? No one is completely good or bad. The "good" is just better (sometimes and in some things) than the 2 others but he's still greedy and ready to break any deal just to benefit himself, the "ugly" is a flawed type but the most sympathetic of the group because of the traumas of his past as we learn from the conversation with his brother and his more humorous attitude coming mostly from his stupidity (especially compared to the 2 others), so we can identify more with him because he's a comic relief and we all are "ugly" in some way and the "bad" is indeed the worse of the 3 because he's so self centered but is also a traumatized isolated person, so it makes sense he can't create any real close ralationships and only trusts himself, but he mostly kills other killers or greedy rich men and showed sympathy for the injured soldiers in the ruined fortress!

The title is somewhat ironic. "The Good" has no moral compass whatsoever and is as ready to kill, betray, deceive or trick as anyone as long as it is for his own benefit. He gave Tuco a chance in the desert instead of killing him outright, yes, but it was a slim chance and he probably did it out of some kind of superstition, not for Tuco's sake. However, he is smart and, contrary to the rest of the cutthroats, he is capable of some compassion.

One of the many scenes in the film that set it apart from all previous Westerns, and even Sergio Leone's own work to that date. Lee Van Cleef's performance was faultless in the movie, though he appeared for much less time on screen than either of the other two stars. There were few other stock western bad guys of the era who could have played this scene as perfectly as Lee Van Cleef did. The victim did nicely as well (completely, and rightly terrified of the guy he has hired to kill a former army comrade), not to mention the trademark Leone facial close-ups.

I like to think that Cleef deliberately misinterpreted Manco's thousand-dollar offer: he knew that He was trying to bribe him to turn around and walk away, but his own code as a bounty killer meant that the job had to ve seen through. So he took the money and chose to interpret it as payment to return the favor to the man whom paid to have him killed.

I didn’t think I’d find someone with my exact thoughts in here! I hate how the empire is useless and boba is teaming up with mando for obscure honor reasons. I always saw him as a cold-blooded angel eyes character who would curb stomp anyone in his way. The show would be much better with antagonists who actually pose a real threat. Otherwise who gives a damn about a shootout in a hallway if you know the protagonists will always win without a scratch on their armor even.

That's not Mando or Fett. They're based on Clint Eastwood. the Good. A bounty hunter like Angel Eyes aka Van Cleef would be Cad Bane, the only Bounty Hunter who has ever rivaled Jango Fett as the best bounty hunter in the galaxy.

when seeing this trilogy for first time i watched few dollars more and this back to back, and for the first 15 minutes i thought angel eyes was mortimer and was real confused on how he could have possibly changed so much before realising they were totally separate characters

This is the guy who inspired Cad Bane. However Angel Eyes is willing to do more than just than Kill a guy for snoring like John Wesley Hardin or a nice hat like Cad Bane. Hell, he killed his employer while he was still awake.

William Strother According to Jeremy Bulloch, his entire portrayal of Boba Fett was based on Clint Eastwood’s performance as “The Man With No Name” in A Fistful of Dollars. The minimal movement and menacing demeanor of Clint Eastwood can be seen in every movement (or lack of it) in everyone’s favorite Mandalorian bounty hunter in the classic trilogy. www.starwars.com/news/the-cinema-behind-star-wars-the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly

It is sort of honorable that Angel Eyes carried out the second contract even though his employer was dead and could not have known. Angel Eyes could have just kept the money.

Pay attention to the end of the scene were you see the gun smoke wafting out of the pillow. The music is actually in time with the movement of the smoke. Brilliant imagery and music combination.

This is one BRUTAL scene. Something you would see in today's shoot em up films. 4 shots through the pillow at point blank range. If it was filmed today there would be copious amounts of CGI gore and blood. Lets just say angel eyes did that to keep blood from splattering on him.

Possibly interesting footnote: Lee Van Cleef's nickname in the original italian version was "Sentenza" which could be translated as (you probably guessed it) "Sentence", "Judgment", not "Angel Eyes". To this day I'm still unsure if Sergio Leone picked both versions or if one of the two was decided at a later stage by the production.
