God I needed this. Last week I had food poisoning that was incredibly painful and the last three days I had a awful tooth ache that ran the gamut of its extremes. I'm really exhausted and this score just put the energy back in me.

It all came together in the Dollars trilogy with this one. One of the rare trilogies - the only? - where the final film is truly the best, in this case a masterpiece. OK, "trilogy" in the sense that a character runs through it but, like James Bond, without a through narrative, or even theme. Be that as it may, this certainly builds on the two that came before and maxed out the style. The more operatic Once Upon a Time in the West almost pulls the film apart with its ambitious scale and pace. Here, the time passes less ostentatiously, leading to a tense, surprising climax. Morricone paralleled Leone's journey, conjuring a unique, unconventional score blending a modest orchestra with a mostly wordless chorus of harmonies and vocal acrobatics. One can not imagine it used anywhere else. The enigmatic Ecstasy of Gold and tense grandeur of The Trio drive action forward that is comprised of little more than ever closer cuts from character to character. Thrilling, engaging storytelling where all the excellent parts comprise an ever greater whole.

Thanks Mind❤🤠 Great Ennio Morricone and Sergio Leone ❤👏🏻 Old Clint is invincible.💪🏻 Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach are equally great.👏🏻 Research: Picaresque and epic, very long and messy, full of memorable images and lines: "Every gun has its voice, and I know this one." The final three-way duel was memorable. There are mountains of curiosities, anecdotes, background stories, quotes and parodies about the "Dollars Trilogy", but I prefer to report what was the hypothesis of a sequel. Sergio Leone had no intention of making other westerns and with the following "Once Upon A Time In The West" he claims to close the genre. However, Leone's long-time screenwriter, Luciano Vincenzoni, has stated several times that he has written the screenplay for a sequel, "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly No. 2" set about 20 years after the original film. The script was still in its embryonic stage, but Vincenzoni had contacted the main characters. Eli Wallach in fact gave some hints regarding the plot of the alleged sequel: «Tuco is still looking for that son of a bitch. And he discovers that Blonde has been killed. But his nephew is still alive, and knows where the treasure is hidden. So Tuco decides to chase him." (Eli Wallach) Clint Eastwood himself, having learned of the sequel, made himself available to take care of the production and act as narrator for the film, respecting the future of his old character. Joe Dante was contacted to direct and Sergio Leone was supposed to be the co-producer of the film. However, despite the premises, the film did not come to fruition, as Leone himself was not at all in agreement with making another western, and did not give permission to use the title and characters.
