Don't go down town. Because there's a lot of homeless people and drug addicts. Especially at night time. Otherwise it's not a bad little town. I've lived here since 2002. I've learned a lot. Everything is very expensive. And boring. But we do have a Toys R Us! And we have petland that nobody buys pets but just goes in and looks at the animals. It's like a zoo. Don't give money to homeless people. Don't give smokes to homeless people. Because cigarettes are $40 now for a pack. 😢 Don't go into a liquor store drunk. They hate that. Even if there's a bar next to the store. People are very ignorant on people who are drunk. They're racists. Make sure you get the receipt for everything you buy. Make sure you got your change back! Because they will take it from you.

That's a shame it's overblown online like that because I've moved here a year-and-a-half ago and my husband's been hesitant to check out the downtown because what he used to read on Facebook so I'm glad to hear that it's over exaggerated because I've wanted to check it out.

Downtown Red Deer is amazing. There's a weekly farmer's market in the summer on Wednesdays, Ross Street Patio has live music... There's great food, there's Capstone, and Bower Ponds as well as the Red Deer River. Lots of cool stuff downtown! Hope you and your husband check it out sometime. Keep in mind that whatever you read on reddit about crime and homelessness is probably people just venting about an experience they just had. I have never had any real negative experiences in the time I've spent downtown, even at night. Just be cautious and use the buddy system. Hope that helps.

you should have added, along with the hospital, that there isn't a single doctor's office in central Alberta that is taking new patients. As well, there are very few walk in clinics and the wait times there can be up to 8 hours, or be told they are full for the day and to try again tomorrow. As for the park system, you got that exactly right !!!!! I would say Red Deer has one of the best park and trail systems in the whole world !!!!!! I've always loved that about Red Deer !
@djteako Жыл бұрын
Should also add, Red Deer might be boring at times, but also has a lot of good things happening. For instance, If you are into cars, trucks, etc, Red Deer has a very vibrant and active "car scene" There are many various groups and clubs from brand specific, to 4x4 truck groups, and all are very open and welcoming. As well, Red Deer cruise night - every thursday evening from may to october, hosts anywhere from 100 - 450+ vehicles of all makes, shapes and sizes. Throughout the summer there is a big event or 4 of some type and kind every weekend, so there's always something new to see and do. Yeah, it might be lacking in nightclubs, but is that really such a bad thing?

I live here next to the old railroad bridge, the addiction crisis is destroying many lives and families, it is extremely heartbreaking to see how callous and inhumane some people can be towards the disadvantaged in society. That being said, there is many kind and compassionate members of society who do care.

I’ve lived in Alberta 16 out of my 17 years and it’s honestly not bad but the homeless population is rising and has made the quality of living change and our housing costs are pretty high, the average apartment is 1,000-1500 a month for rent and housing is regular cost of 300,000-700,000 depending on where you want to live, in my area we have good walking paths I’m not far from the river and it’s all around pretty nice but like anywhere else it has its own problems and downsides just how it has its upsides like recreation and stuff to do

Great video. I would rather live in Red Deer than Edmonton. A few things you didn’t mention was Red Deers great ski hill (canyon)which is a huge way to get out and enjoy winter and if Sylvan lake is too busy Gull Lake is a great alternative. My mom grew up on a farm on the north/west side of Gull Lake and it was a great place to swim and fish.

There are actually lots of great places to eat in Red Deer if you're looking for variety. If you like Korean BBQ, there's Foodie Bros. or Gangnam and Coco. If you're into Vietnamese, Pho Thuy Dung is the best in town. For Thai there's Ruon Thai or Blue Dragon. For Japanese food, I always recommend the EKA of Japan, or Shiso for sushi. If you're looking for authentic Mexican, Las Palmeras or Tacoloft are great. Hash or Murph's for a tasty breakfast. For great pub food, Bo's or Murph's are great and so is East 40th. It just seems that restaurants don't always have staying power here, but all of the places I mentioned above are both affordable and delicious. You're right about the nightlife, all the clubs closed down and it's a drag if you're younger. We do still have two exotic dancer clubs, two video game arcade bars, a tabletop gaming lounge, and a VR arcade. There are two bowling alleys open late, and there's tons of live music and art culture to take in. There's usually some sort of event going on at Bower Ponds, where you can rent paddleboats in the summer or skates in the winter. Sylvan Lake is ten minutes away and does actually have some decent bars on the Lakeshore Drive strip. The trail system of course, is by far the best thing about RD. All in all, some great points. I recommend The Vat Pub or Bo's for any kind of live tunes, or head downtown and check out Ross Street Patio or Capstone when there's an event going on. Red Deer may not be massive in size, but there's a huge drive towards developing a real sense of community that I think a lot of people tend to be ignorant of. I hope this supplemental info helps anyone new to the area.

The one thing red deer needs is more adult places for adults. Like, as an example in Penticton bc they have what is called the Channel where adults can tube drink on the channel as long as your an adult and party. There is nothing like that in red deer you legit have to drive to either gull lake or go to sylvan and bar hop to get that adult experience and socialization. Red Deer is boring if your a spring breaker especially if your use to the Miami life style.

Lower Fairview (now aptly renamed to Riverside) is directly across the river from downtown and is technically speaking, the downtown of what was once "North Red Deer", which was its own separate village from Red Deer until 1948 and had its own ambitions (a little history lesson for y'all). Riverside also happens to be the central location for two of the most widely used shelters in the city, so the unhoused population do tend to flood the area in the evenings. I've heard crime has been a persistent issue in the area. However, I do love walking down to Burger Boy or taking bike rides along the river and across the old train bridge. Just have to be careful not to go alone, or stay too late.
@Mukluck694202 ай бұрын

@@mariamasbad1120 West Park is downtown adjacent, and also not far from the Polytech. You get a lot of young people and other folks who are looking for cheaper living. A lot of the homes closer to the downtown area are converted into suites by the owners for the purpose of renting, and many are in need of upkeep. The new West Park area (used to be called West Lake) is much nicer and farther from downtown, but the houses are stark in contrast and much more expensive. Vanier Woods is far southeast (far from everything else in Red Deer), but likely has a way lower crime rate and seems to be a lovely suburb. Because of the relative age and size of those houses, they are probably somewhat affordable while also being in good shape. Hope that helps.

@derennickerson65692 ай бұрын
Not sure about the "estates" myself, but Highland Green is a downtown adjacent area that has a higher crime rate. However, if you live in a safe and secure building and you are cautious about the way you go about your business, Highland Green doesn't have anything wrong with it. The area has very affordable housing and is close to the Dawe, downtown, and many of the trails.
