It is actually quite simple. Google does not want to rank product content even if the content is better than anything out there and very useful. Otherwise no one will click on google's add that contains no information and contains no value. Google wants to make the money on the click and will not allow anyone else to make money on the click. The only other items on product search results are pages that no one really wants to go to and maybe a few videos so users are more likely to click there ads. Until there is a competitor in search it will remain this way with many useless search results. Bloggers can/should only write information content and link to product content from there. You are better off starting from scratch with no product content. Yes years wasted, I just switched to other types of businesses.

Google doesn't need us anymore to write content. So what they plan to do (I presume) is take over all COMMERCIAL content + TRANSACTIONAL content, which covers non-service products on the search engine via AI, in order to make affiliate commissions themselves, as well as make more revenue. INFORMATIONAL content is the way to go. As well as TRANSACTIONAL content (BUT!) that covers services. And COMMERCIAL content will completely be taken over, I imagine. Not sure what other people think about that, though. Also, when something new comes into play. For example, if a new type of non-service product hasn't ever been covered yet, would Google take that over, as well? (or perhaps later they would once enough information is on the search engine for AI to make more quality and better-informed content).

When I search best... I'm looking for exactly what Jake is offering, an honest expert in-depth review. Then I will search buy.... what ever the thing is. Honest reviews have disappeared. Everything is fake affiliate sites and not enough sites like Jakes. Being able to buy the shoe on the site calls the validity of the review into question. I think Google is getting it wrong and fucking up our economy. I hate that we have to write for algorithms not people.

I think the main problem is that google is fighting a war against all kinds of spammers and abusers and failing miserable lately (AI probably is a bit factor in this) beim more open would probably not really help because as soon as any clear information on the algorithm is dropped most people will adjust to that and the next update will have to be much faster to adjust... Interestingly enough - having been on youtube for a long time you see the same kinds of rumors come up between creators ever so often...

Actually I see a different point, were Google screwed many business owners. It was the point, when they inserted up to five adwords just as first results, then just 1 (!) free search result, then an infobox with frequently asked questions, then I think up to another 2 adwords. The result is, that former positions 2-10 now rank based on scroll-space like 10 positions lower. No customer scrolls so far. THAT was the point when our business was severly damaged.

Because Google owns the platforms (both the search and KZbin for example) people are renting the content from the platform instead of actually owning it. Google can decide what can and cannot exist on its platforms on its own whether the creator likes it or not. The problem has already been that this is rent that people are not realizing is being paid by simply using its content and spending money to use the internet is also a form of rent that you are paying to be on the platform. It is 100% business and people put their own pride into what they do on their platforms over the platforms that Google owns.

Lucky he got some recovery, all my sites are further in the ground. I would tell him to take his experience more to KZbin. Create videos around all these products and put affiliate links in there - it's the new Google since Google kinda sucks now. My sites are still getting traffic, but mainly from Pinterest, Bing, and KZbin. Not like it use to be though.

2005 to 2011 AdSense paid me 210,000 €, range 2,000 € to 4,000 € a month. After Penguin, it went down 99%.

Ahrefs has the google HCU also affected your business? I for one was going to buy AHrefs and pay the pro fee, but decided not to as niche sites are dead. Has the general sentiment impacted your subscriptions?

There's VERY good reason why they don't publish their algorithms. As soon as they do, the people generating or optimising content automatically will start feeding their content into a local implementation to optimise for the highest possible rankings. The only outcome will be that Google will need to revise their algorithm again - and a spike in web pages optimised for the algorithm rather than for human consumption.

This goes to show how a tool like Ahref can show you the right data to make the next steps. Though of course you still need to expertise of an SEO person to anylize what's going on.

Google as monopoly should support independent businesses for fair competition for value, otherwise all businesses verticals will be dominated by 1-2 monopolies and there will be no need in ads, as there will be no bidders.
