Who says the food is eggs? Birds are known for feeding their babies a regurgitated meal. Each mana paid into (X) creates an additional head on the hydra, and that makes another mouthful of food.

Do you think Goose Mother is better as commander, or as a 99 in a Gimbal or Rashmi and Ragavan artifact commander deck?

I think it could be good in both. Definitely one of the better ways in the game to convert mana into artifacts
