Zion here, and for the first time ever, i bring you the show that brought the house down!
Songs: I made a Vow,
Jesus you've been good to me,
I feel the fire burning
Finally, I posted my first video after so much turmoil. It's ironic that a gospel recording took me through hell to post. Much of it's due to the primitive method I was forced to use, and living in what must be the world's noisiest city (NY) didn't help.
Apologies for the snap crackle pop. The source of the recording is an LP recorded to a cassette tape back in '77, so if you can ignore the noise hopefully you'll enjoy the music.
By the way, because my cheap camera software won't allow me to upload a video for much more than 22 mins., this had to be trimmed from it's original 23:38 mins. to 22:06 mins (eliminating the humorous intro and some small parts near the ending), but nothing major.
All that being said, I am proud to present you with the first posting anywhere of this historical concert. This show is a perfect example as to why they were nicknamed the "house wreckers".
The missing intro -
Willie Johnson:
And I'm still a country boy, and I wonder how many in this building country just like me..huh?
I want all the country people to hold their hands up.
Ooooh Wee...somebodies a long way from the country back there in the back, they got both hands up..that means they a long way from the country..huh? We country people we usually have to know how to have a good time.

THIS...was indeed the quintessential Gospel Keynotes! Just like The Temptations of Motown, and The Dixie Hummingbirds of Peacock, there's only ONE original lineup you think of as members. These men are the ones, that when I played "Jesus You've Been Good To Me" the first time on my sister's stereo, I played it over and over again at least 40 or 50 times in a row! Having the great Willie Neal Johnson tell me that I was "qualified" to go with him on the road has been one of the great blessings in my life. Like others have said, there has been only one Willie Neal Johnson, a man of great humility and character, a man that was concerned more about the ministry than "carrying the house". His greatest gift, in my opinion, was the ability to "talk" you happy as much or more than to "sing you happy". I'll stop now. Thank you +The Cross for posting this gem of a set done by THEE Gospel Keynotes!

yes, no doubt about it! willie wore his identity on his sleeve, even if you never met him you knew him because he was so real. i'm absolutely convinced that this concert would permanently transform any atheist, these guys made the dead move with their performances. this concert for me is the ultimate. i saw them perform this set twice in '76 (a few months before this recording came out) when they were traveling with james cleveland (i recorded the 1st show) and i've been traumatized ever since. wow, so you joined the keynotes, what part did you play?..man, that's what dreams are made of. i'm just glad i was able to finally share this legendary show with utube gospel fans.
@teagrey212
@teagrey212 7 жыл бұрын
Lol! "Traumatized" is a very heavy impression my friend, but I definitely understand what you mean. The first time they appeared live here in our town...we had some "heavy hitters" on the service and some locals, The CBS Trumpeteers and the Swan Silvertones, but when that curtain rolled back and the Keynotes walked up with those red suits on with "Ride The Ship to Zion" music popping in the background...it was as if a nuclear bomb had gone off in our Civic Center!!! Grown men were screaming like women!!! From there it only climbed and you were actually weak in the spirit, soul, and body when all was said and done. No, I never joined them. Willie said that IF he hadn't just gotten Charles as Paul's replacement he would've asked me to go with him. Possibly, if I hadn't just gotten married, I would have volunteered to be a roadie and fill in if need be. Just to hear him say I was qualified to go was a wonderful encouragement to a 24/25-year-old quartet singer from a small town. Again I thank you for the post and the reply. Be Blessed.

@Tone-Moonie
@Tone-Moonie 6 жыл бұрын
The Cross you are right. well for me personally I think the energy of the performers have changed. I go to a few concerts often and vie witness a lot of them do it just to gain personal fame or women. Very rarely do most of them actually respect the craft or sing from the soul and as energy vessels one can tell true anointed beings....also I guess when something becomes a classic is when it is respected more. just my opinion
@thecross9768

this was all as far as the keynotes goes, they only did those 3 songs. there were others on the album but i’m not sure it’s the same concert and i didn’t make computer files on them.

Unfortunately if they did record other songs that day, we probably won't ever hear them. The place where the nashboro records masters were stored burned down some time ago.
