Regarded for his writing that examines ethnicity and identity, David Henry Hwang is best known for penning M. Butterfly (Tony Award, Pulitzer finalist). Other celebrated plays include Chinglish, Golden Child (Tony nomination) and Yellow Face (Pulitzer finalist). He also wrote the books for Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida (co-author), Disney's Tarzan and the 2003 revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song (Tony nomination). In addition to writing for the stage, David Henry Hwang is an opera librettist (four works with composer Philip Glass) and a screenwriter (M. Butterfly and Golden Gate).
