Look at this: Arca talked about the kicks being a form of rebellion against oppression. Kick 1 show us who she is and what she brings Kick 2 is the take over, where the mutants organize to change the paradigms Kick 3 is pure fire, burn to the ground to renaissance Kick 4 is the accomodation and installation of this new future, alienated languages with songs that empower And kick 5 is the last hours of the celebration, there's peace, there's hope and we have this new guide, Arca as Maria Lionza

I believe Arca has also said the entire series brings an image of pregnancy and birth. As a baby kicks for the first time in the womb, the parents realize the organism has its own autonomy and will. It is not malicious by kicking, it is instinctual and naturally occurring; “there’s no malice behind it” I believe is a direct quote from Arca. With this in mind, I absolutely love “Crown”. My poetry professor pointed out to me this last semester that the song’s lyrics utilize birth imagery and I don’t know how I missed it. While there’s obvious sexual overtones and nods to gender identity with the lines like “Lipstick, the lines the lines” or “Hips shift from side to side” and even “how could it fit inside a body so petite”, there’s also certainly lines that describe pregnancy and birth. That “how could it fit inside a body so petite” is something that my professor said immediately brought her back to the dreadful apprehension that occurred within her when her belly began to grow and her skin began to become more full. The “how could she flip it all upside down” nods to when a baby quite literally flips itself to crown and be birthed, while the line “she wears her crown” perfectly culminated the entire meaning of KiCk that I mentioned earlier. As “she wears her crown”, the birthed baby expresses such autonomy and authenticity whilst the control is taken out of the other’s hands. When a baby is crowning, the mother sacrifices all control. No matter the physical suffering, the mother cannot control the contractions, control when the baby will leave, and etc etc and you get where the metaphor is going. It just blew my mind when my professor mentioned this to me and made me see the albums in a new light for sure.

Sentimentally, this album is my favorite of the kicks. For some reason, it just has a hold on a deep emotion I can’t pinhole. Ofc I love the other albums for different reasons, but this one really just floored me in a way that she’s never done before. Iconic.
