The grass that grows 20ft in one season! Introducing miscanthus lutarioriparius

Introducing... miscanthus lutioraparius! Growing up to 6 metres (20 feet) in height in a single season, this grass is currently the tallest known to cultivation. Even taller than the tropical garden staples miscanthus x giganteus and arundo donax, m. lutarioriparius hails from central China and is still rare in the UK, being sold by just two nurseries.
In this video, I plant some in my tropical style garden in the north of England.

Right! I think these tall grasses even look great in winter, and of course provide great habitat space for overwintering animals.

I’ve got this beast, brought it last year from Pan Global Plants. Got maybe 6 canes last year, its already burst into growth this year of about 20/30cm and about 14 stems 😊 can’t wait till summer to see its majestic presents lol

@@greatnorthernexotic I would say about 16/17ft bro, lovely colour stems like you say. The lower leaf nodes as they loss the leaves will start to push out roots and and a new stem, very hungry and rampant 🤣 love it hahaha mine is in a 50” barrel planter at the moment

Got one myself, im in Hull and mine is around 2 feet tall already. 2nd year for me, currently replanted in to a dustbin that iv sunk into the ground as im concerned about how invasive it is, hopefully will get huge this year. Can get it from sunk island garden centre not far from me so it is available

Yeah you should check it out, it's a great place. Specialises in tropicals mainly so as the year progresses it generally gets better so if it's a bit of a drive for you I'd wait a couple of months 👍

I really want this ! Thanks for the video. I need two or 3 feet over what miscanthus Giganticus can provide for privacy purposes. Looks like the suppliers are out for now. I welcome a hook up ;-)

I got mine from Ben at Cliff Bank Nursery (drop him an email and tell him I sent you 😁) - if he's out of stock, your best bet is getting on the email list for Big Plant Nursery and Pan Global Plants. I've also been told Sunk Island Nursery near Hull stocks it though not sure if they deliver.

Got mine from somerleyton hall garden fair last year .put it straight in the ground. This year it has spread about 3 ft so I will putting barrier in

It will make hybrids if you dont take care, and can be kinda invasive
