If you are in it for the money I wouldn't. Like you said, buy what you enjoy......if it is meaningless and is only investment value then it is painful when value is lost. If in 20 years it has gained significant value then you own a item you love and you can choose if and when is the best time to sell if you are needing funds for whatever reason. I mean, in 5-10 years time, when the hype and novelty of alt arts is long gone...how will the 6000+ pop alt arts compare to the comparative rarity of the prior generations. How will the 11,000 pop umbreon alt art compare to a 100-300 pop umbreon EX, LV.X, Prime, e-series ect. Not saying I have any answers, I'm just intrested to see how these crazy high populations will effect value in the long run 😵💫 But..my suspicion is, it won't be good 😕
@15blows5 ай бұрын
@@grydon6422what’s an appropriate price point? Who decides what the appropriate price is on something that doesn’t have an msrp and is deemed a rare collectible? Clearly we’ve seen many people are willing to pay $850-900 for a copy of the moonkitty or $450 for a tina? So doesn’t that make it an appropriate price point? Is $750-800 an appropriate price for the Latias Latios? Or $350 for the Gengar Mimikyu? It’s all about how many people want it and are willing to pay that price point. If a large enough group of people are buying at those prices then that’s what deems an appropriate price at that point in time. The spike was inevitable with the FOMO that came from sets going out of stock on PC and the subsequent crash was inevitable with everyone trying to realize their gains, but the whole narrative that it was ALL market manipulation and these prices were “absurd” or “inappropriate” is false. If the secondary pokemon market was so easy to manipulate you better believe it would be a non-stop manipulation frenzy until every single or product was manipulated to some degree. Market manipulation doesn’t work on that level without an external catalyst and that catalyst was PC’s inventory finishing. So in short I guess I’m just confused by the appropriate price statement.

Now imagine what that number looks like worldwide, including huge collecting populations in Canada, Australia, the UK not to mention the East which also has a big groups of collectors that value English cards. The number of collectors who would love to own a psa10 umby vmax is probably in the hundreds of thousands if not millions and a big group of those are kids. What do we know about kids and pokemon based off of our generation? a good amount of us grow up and went back to by the cards we wanted as kids and couldn’t have, except now there will be 2-3 generations of collectors hunting those cards and there kids vs. the one we had. I think the genius of the Pokemon company and what they’ve done the most brilliantly is creating just enough product to meet demand without crossing that line into over saturation and I think Pokemon as a brand and TCG has proven that it will continue to stay relevant into the foreseeable future

Most of your videos are on point. But at this video I think your wrong. It's going down because al the gradeble copies are already bought out. So yes the prices dropped, but nowadays you buy most likely a card with less potential to grade. So that explains the price drop. Besides that, prices in Europe didn't moved yet. I see that alt arts are still rising here, so I think some people are importing the alt arts from Europe since they are still a bit cheaper here :) . For those 2 reasons I think it's just a little pullback before they gain even more ...

This, these cards will be the new "ponchos" of the future. This hype we have seen for these cards will leave a ever lasting hype for the cards. They have a large pop 10 report compared to other popular cards but that doesnt matter...These cards are the first in history that have seen such a crazy hype train and fomo to own them. When the dust settles, people who dont have one will wish they had, because these cards IMO are going to do stupid in the long term.
@phillips.collectibles5 ай бұрын
Appreciate that! It will be interesting to see in the next few months. Thanks for tuning in.
@grydon64225 ай бұрын
@evgaman4391 Gosh, I’m sorry but there is so much wrong in your comment.. Let’s break it down. 1. These cards are *absolutely not* the first ones to have such hype, wtf are you talking about. That comment alone shows how biased and uninformed you are about this subject. And the funny thing is, most cards that have seen such hype and fomo before, have crashed/come back where they were. One example is the overall Japanese card boom a year ago. My Munch Scream Mimikuy went from 4k to 9k in a few weeks - guess where it’s now, back to 4k, and it was obvious that would happen, because I force myself to not give in to the bias. You called them ”hype” and ”fomo” yourself - those two things will *never* last, they’ll move to the next thing. 2. There is no such thing as ”ever lasting hype” lmao. That is the biggest mistake you can make in any sort of investing - ”everlasting”.. There has been one single hype period for these alt arts; there is much bigger chance the hype will eventually just move to the next big thing, than this being something special and long lasting for these specific cards 3. Cards from these new regular sets will *never* be the new Ponchos; Ponchos are what they are because they are very exclusive and unique promos. There is nothing exclusive or unique about these alt arts, even if they look beautiful. All alt arts look amazing, even the dirt cheap ones, and they will look even better in the future. That is not a big factor with card’s success. 4. The high pop report *absolutely matters,* and a lot too. The hobby is simply not big enough for cards with 10k+ pop to sustain their prices as high as they are now. Not anytime soon anyway, maybe in the future. Even a pop of few thousands is high for Pokemon cards, let alone 10k. When the dust really settles, it’s the exact opposite what you are saying; these cards will be in the perfect prices for buying for anyone who wants them. You think they are ”going to do stupid” in long term because you are biased due to owning them, and wish them to do stupid - it’s not based on anything rational or factual analysis. That doesn’t mean they can’t do stupid in the actual long term, for the right reasons, but that requires for the hobby to grow a lot bigger first, and another nostalgia boom for this era of cards in the future. And that ”long term” is not 5 years, maybe not even 10.

My take is that these chase cards are rare to begin with and in order to have a chance to get them all, you'll need to spend thousands of dollars on booster packs or buy them directly from someone etc. They will only print so many of them and when they stop, the supply will be limited and the demand will be higher. So logically the prices on these rare cards will only go up over time. I highly doubt pokemon will ever go away. It seems to me the market is demanding more art styled cards, and pokemon is capitalizing on that and will continue to do so going into the future. I think we are entering into a golden age of pokemon collecting. It's only getting more popular as time goes on. With all of that considered, the rare cards in good condition will likely be good investments in the long run 10-20 years+. If you look at 3 months of volatility that's literally a blink of an eye when it comes to investing.

I wouldnt even call this a crash because other alts are still going up or maintaining. Id say its leveling out. Also its summer time. Folks are selling things off and taking vacations. Pokemon cards notoriously dip during summer months. By fall there will be a rise again and a dip again around Christmas and January. Happens all the time. Its why you have to know when to take advantage of buying during certain seasons, as well as buying something different when everyone else is buying high from fomo. From my perspective I'm up big on the alts when I got them 5 months ago. I got a giratina v for 180 usd, so for me if I wanted to sell, I'm up. As a collector I doubt I will ever be able to get it for that price again, so I'm holding. And if I ever had to sell for some reason, chances are I'm still up. And thats just one of the alts. Stuff like Machamp for 65 bucks, Espeon for 170 (graded), Leafeon for 125, etc I'm way way up. I got a psa 10 Sylveon for 190. Not a brag but buy at the dip isnt just an expression. The idea as a collector is to flush them out of the market and hope they move to something else. Before it was sneakers or retro video games, so hopefully something else comes along they think they can flip. The next few sets look really good. By then folks will be appreciating SV and realize they actually like it. Tale old as time. I already worked on completing the SV IR and SIR's. Cheaper and better than SWSD alts. Before buying anything I apply the following: Low pop ⬇️ + Low Hype ⬇️ + High pokemon popularity ⬆️ = Potential Long term investment ✅️ Low pop ⬇️ + Low Hype ⬇️ + Low pokemon popularity ⬇️ = Personal collection item ✅️ but not a viable investment ❌️ High pop ⬆️ + High Hype ⬆️ + High pokemon popularity ⬆️ = Throwing your money in the bin ❌️ I learnt this lesson the hard way 😢, so you don't have to 😄

Sorry bro but this Title of the vid is just misleading... its having a bit of a correction, not a crash... also its summer time... people are selling their cards to enjoy their lives... come winter time it'll prob create a new high lol

Well it's a good thing I don't care about moonbreon alt art or Blaziken alt art or giratina alt ect. I don't get they hype. Plenty of other cards I like better and would rather have. Charizards for days. So many Charizard cards are under valued I don't even understand it. Guess people got tired of Charizards guess what it was all a plan so people could buy up Charizards cheap and prepare for Charizards return and spike to market dominance 😈

These drops you keep talking about are 10% drops. Not huge drops for single cards. Let’s take a breath
@xavierpena19964 ай бұрын
If you know anything about investing, 10% is kind of a lot. Besides, Lugia has seen something closer to a 15% drop. With Giratina, it's near 20%. That's not insignificant.

These things only affect fomo buyers. If people believed in the card and bought in early it’s no issue. There is not only panic selling, people are also selling their long term postions to take profits. You can’t distinguish the two on a graph so by default people take it as panic selling and it sets off a cascade of price dips. People will re enter at a point where they can at least realise a realistic chance of achieving some growth again but as a collector it’s a great time over the next few months

That’s cool - what are some of your classics in your collection?
@RogueOne1235 ай бұрын
@@phillips.collectibles I said from WOTC to S&M but in fact I have only WOTC and S&M haha :) Ofc besides some modern but I'm not invested in them. They're nice but I find vintage more beautiful even if their artworks are as simple as they could be. Sun and Moon on the other hand was the best time to collect full arts. My WOTC is basically tons of Sabrina related cards from Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge and this is the core of my collection, these are cards I loved back then, played them always etc. That includes every possible english and japanese card you can find but many of them have 10 or more pcs. Having also some rare promo with Sabrina (called Gym Badge) from 2016 I believe, tons of english but also hard to find in Europe where I live two japanese version as well. Then going further to full arts having some big hitters, mainly Lillies and Sabrina from S&M. The other cards from later eras are just usually psychic/ghost pokemon I like + trainers, trainer galleries etc. Very profiled collection (I highly recommend that because one's never chasing everything which is impossible to accomplish right now and more importantly - very expensive. Allows to stay calm when a new sets gets released :D), easy to track hence I don't need to analyze too many prices all the time.
