back then different depts. around the country had different cars, usually w/e they could get a good deal on & oftentimes made nearby. Lansing, MI for example used Oldsmobiles as squad cars for decades when they were made there. Pontiac, MI used Pontiacs, & Cadillac, MI even used Cadillacs. lol, pretty crazy from today's perspective

In real life such an absurd plan would be a recipe for disaster and doomed to fail . First, way too many people involved in the heist. Second, the idea that you want people to remember your faces selling ice cream or pitching horseshoes, or hanging out for days at a children's playground is absolutely the dumbest thing you can do as far as post crime witnesses and identification of the crooks are concerned. Third, if I'm an armored car guard or any law enforcement officer and a horn SUDDENLY goes off inexplicably near a bank , I would immediately freeze and alertly raise my gun automatically to defend! Fourth, a city on a major river would be, next to closing off highway in both directions within a certain radius, the first thing law enforcement would address as far as searching all boats leaving the area! Get real! At least the movie had the correct message for all you folks: Crime does not pay. He had a good woman. He should have listened to her at the outset . She must be very sad right about now.

First off these are writers telling a story that standards and practice had to approve so imagine writing a story with a both hands tied be hind your back 2nd there were no radios back in these days so the robbers had a huge advantage and no roads would be sealed like today...lookouts were deployed to spot foot traffic 3rd you can never say what you will do no matter the training if you are taken by surprise..guards are human not super heroes..i wont take a bullet for any job

All good points, saved me the time. I mean, it's not like they all moved overseas after the heist. You only needed one of about 10 victims to recognize one of these guys in the street. Plus, these are all gangsters, and even in the old days police had mugshots. It would also be pretty dumb for Johnny not to realize that these guys were not gonna let him go ahead with his plan. They did not pretend to accept his explanation. Likewise, they had to be pretty dumb to think that killing him in the middle of the street would end their problems. After all, he knew many of these guys, so it's pretty reasonable the police would find them through his records. And wouldn't his wife sing about any of his cohorts she knew about?
