The Great Explosion and Fire of Newcastle & Gateshead

I am a Newcastle lad born and raised and originally we lived in Mather St beside Rye Hill in which we were not far from the Quayside so the blast would have horrendous around that area, I am 66 yrs old and I have never heard of this until now and it was very interesting to listen to it but It must of been devastating for all concerned at that time. Thank you for posting this history of where we live,

your voice is mesmerizing the stories engaging . As children my sister remembers the Police calling to our family home. To inform my Mother of the death of a lady called Philomena.. We lived in the West end of Newcastle. However my Mother was from Spennymoor. Can you shed any light on this Murder? It was in the late 60's early 70's any insights would be much appreciated.
