Well done as always, can't wait to see what comes next

We use Crusher Fines for our G scale Ballast. They work well, but they'll wash away in a heavy storm. We've used some edging to try to hold it place.

Something I'd love to see in the future is track expansion. Even something as simple as a spur to put a car. Just to cover the basics as I've found myself looking into G scale. I have a problem though...make that 7 problems, 5 of which are out of my control...my first one is my "starting engine" is a 4-6-0, and I currently have bigger buys coming up. The 5 out-of-control problems are hail (some bigger than golf balls), tornadoes, damaging winds, long periods between rains, and drifting snow. Like enough of an issue that I getting a G scale snow plow, or snow blower is a need if I follow through on doing anything outdoors soon. I plan on waiting until I have a house yet (I'm skipping the apartment phase). Edit: make those 5 out of control problems 7, temperature is an issue, especially as we head into fall here in Ohio. Where at 7 in the mornin' it may be 38* but by 9 it my be 60* with heat indexes of 80* or 90* before a quick rapid cool off, on top of that, fall winter (yes the last 2 years we've got rain instead of snow. It was even warm enough to sit outside on Christmas day even), and spring rains quickly pool in low areas, and may cause shorts.

Outstanding starter video! I have been planning an out door railroad for years and have finally started the raised grid work.

Very nice. We have a G scale Denver Rio Grande around the Christmas tree. Not very Christmas, but my wife tolerates it.

This is such a nice resume Jimmy. I liked the added detail of pricing as well. You did a great job and will be entertained for years whenever you and the family find time to relax outside.

It's so great to see a very proficient indoor modeler have a go at an outdoor layout. A great, fun garden feature. Sadly, my taste in trains requires a MUCH bigger radius, and I'm set on building an outdoor layout to as much detail as I can to an indoor layout. (Currently looking for a house with a big enough garden! Haha!) Great channel. All the best 👍 /Simon

Great project. It's fun to follow your progress. And the results fantastic.

For what it is worth, I like it. One question I have is why didn't you put all of the weed barrier down before planting?

Do you still have the garden railroad, and do you still run track power? I'd be really intersted in an update on how it's grown in and weathered after a year or two in the ground.

How's the buildup of corrosion on the rails? How often and with what do you clean them with? Won't be long and you'll have a train running the perimeter of the yard. lol
@JMLoll2 жыл бұрын
The rails are usually Brass, although Aluminum is common if you use Battery Power. Brass will tend to corrode quickly, changing to a darker color. To clean the track, my club uses drywall sanders and LGB track cleaning blocks that we "scrub" the track with. Brass doesn't conduct electricity all that well, so you'll have to clean it fairly often. Most of the more experienced G Scalers prefer to use Stainless Steel track, which doesn't need to be cleaned as often.

@@JMLoll couldntve said it any better, I have switched to all stainless steel track. Too bad it is all second hand because aristocraft went under.

Is the train battery or track powered? If battery, how long does it run before recharging? If track, does the track get super dirty outside?

But expansion is going to be difficult.

Did you add to the track that the set came with or did the set come with the oval track layout?
