21:40 Actually, "sell you out" may have meant the first fire--when she faked her death to kid Mizu. She was not expecting Mizu to find her again. Fowler likely had no way of knowing about the marriage to Mikio, but the 'death' of a mixed kid in a village? Easier. That begs the question...who hired the maid to keep Mizu hidden? The same person who killed a man who tried to stab baby Mizu? Was it Fowler? Either way, I think the ambiguity of the betrayal is too good to take this as confirmation. But maybe it is! Constant questions...
@sojtus86814 ай бұрын
I mean considering half of her face was burned, I don´t think she did sell her out back then. I mean what would be the point of faking her death to Mizu, if she sold her out to die? She could have just left. Plus I don´t think she was addicted to opium at the time. It´s more likely that she really did just survive the fire, got too afraid to continue to look after Mizu and just left. Her opium addiction would kinda make sense as a result of using it to dull the pain of burns all over her body.

Yeah, I buy it. When Fowler learns she's a woman he calls her "Little Miss" like a nickname and says "so you're the one..." as if she's different to all the other bastards the white men fathered. I think Mizu's mother was the daughter of one of the four white men, hence why she could be as tall as Skeffington or have eyes like Routely, and why someone was paying to take care of her instead of being offed like Fowler's bastards. Then something changed, the daughter was killed, and those men were sent to kill baby Mizu.

Could also be that that gun was one of the guns that was already been fired by Fowler. Those guns could only shoot one bullet at a time and has to be reloaded after every shot fired and reloading those guns inconveniently takes quite a bit of time. Simply said is that she used it as a club cause that gun had no bullet.
@patrickwinter4288 ай бұрын
Also another thing I wanted to point out is that I'm very sure Mizu knows how to fire a gun and the reason is because she was very knowledgeable and knew about guns when she confronted Hachi in the first episode. At the very least she would know that pulling the trigger is what fires a gun cause she went straight for Hachi's fingers in that scene. So, yeah, she definitely knew how to actually use a gun.

@@patrickwinter428 Yeah I agree. I'm sure she knows about guns and to some extent on how to use them but probably never has because to her its a western invention that shouldn't exist. Funny enough, the Japanese should have a decent familiarity with guns even in this time period. Guns were first brought to Japan in the 1500s, during the Warring States Period and were heavily used by the samurai. After peace was established and the country was closed off to foreigners, guns were no longer in high demand, though it’s still a bit strange that the Shogun’s army wouldn’t have some of their own stockpiled from previous wars. More likely than not it’s artistic license on the writer’s part.

Yeah, I’m an interview or some other kind of media piece, the creators talked about how they went to great lengths to make sure the show was as historically accurate as possible, but made an exception for the shogun’s army not having weapons. I think it works well. Gives us a super intense and suspenseful finale, as well as showing how weak Japan had become under the shogunate’s isolationist policies. They hadn’t kept up with the rest of the world thanks to the shogunate, and fowler being the incredible villain he is, knows exactly what to do.

there is alot of theories going on about mizu parents especially with fowler words. little miss and you got his eyes. 1. the way he says it is like she is important or noble like. nobility likely no but for sure she came from a rich family. 2. big note on you got HIS eyes. cause he isnt talking about her eye color, he is talking about the actual shape of her eyes. meaning this may reveal her father JAPANESE. so this brings up either her father married a white woman or her father is like her, half japanese. there is records of japanese citizens visiting england around that time too so this is possible. "but the show takes place aorund 1650s" true but the earliest known historical records of europeans visiting japan is around 1570s. dedicated trade didnt happen until early 1600s, 1620s is when tensions rose and ban europeans from trading with japan besides rare handful. so chances are mizu father is japanese be full or half blood. either born in japan or born and raised in england (depends on if they do the whole his father was an early japanese merchant to england and settled), he was merchant and business partner with fowler and the others, one being maybe mizu biological mother.

The maid sold her out when she was a kid, not necessarily as an adult! Fowler doesn't know about her husband or her as an adult or whatever otherwise he would not have been surprised to discover Mizu was a woman! The maid raised baby Mizu until the money ran out and then sold her out for one last boost of income and faked her own death in a fire (probably caused by the people she sold Mizu out to) when Mizu was a kid. After that, Mizu had to raise herself (until she found sword father) and I think that is probably where Fowler's information on "the kid" ended. That's probably what Fowler is referring to because I think nobody knows about the second time she was ratted out because everyone involved was killed, otherwise, it would have gotten out that Mizu is a woman and Fowler would have definitely made the connection sooner. I am 100% certain that him telling Mizu about the maid's betrayal refers back to the beginning of the episode where little Mizu says that her pursuers "found" her and swore revenge for her mother/maid, I mean why else open this specific episode with that when the mother/maid is only ever mentioned in it here at the end? I think the big reveal is not just that Mizu has an actual mother who did not betray her but also that the person who raised her and whose supposed murder first put her on the path of revenge never truly cared for her to begin with and that her only few nice memories with her were "bought" from the start. The worst part is that knowing that maid's personality we know it probably wasn't a lump sum they were living off of (she would have probably run away with that money) but that there probably was someone who cared to keep Mizu safe and hidden who at some point had to stop paying her (probably because they died?) and once the money stopped coming the maid who had raised her from a baby who was fucking pretending to be her mother just ratted her out and left her for dead. It just widens the gap between sword father and maid mother. Neither were blood, both were family, but one raised her to achieve her goals while the other imposed their goals on her to use her. Damn.

@a9 ashigaru were low rank peasant warriors/conscripts supplementing samurai ranks. they were not samurai, samurai were a social class as much as a classification of warriors. your argument also ignores the fact that ashigaru did not get the monthly stipend samurai recieved, ashigaru were disarmed after unfiication, while samurai were not, and ashigaru were mainly restricted to spear, bow or gun formations in battle, while samurai were mounted archers. along with this ashigaru would not recieve any privileges as afforded to the samurai class, especially in the edo period where actual fighting was scarce, they were peasants, and often times just farmers who needed to get back to tend their farms ASAP. "The samurai were always a well-trained fighting force, but once large numbers of ashigaru mercenaries entered the fray, warfare intensified. The ashigaru were now semi-professional, and somewhat competent in a variety of weapons." " They were conscripts, peasants who owed fealty to samurai or the Daimyo and were liable for service pretty much as European cerfs were. Their name means.light feet. They were given drilling, a spear, musket or sword, perhaps a little bamboo armour, their master’s livery, perhaps a banner, and fed into the wars. A very few of them were recognized as men of talent and made it all the way to the top, like Toyotomi Hideyoshi."

@@jachyra9 i see you're deliberately walking around the point because your enragement over ppl correcting a historical inaccuracy in a 'HISTORICAL fantasy' led you to misspeak and dig yourself in a hole. what happened to ashigaru were samurai? or did the fact that was just..blatantly wrong lead you to drop that. point is no one is saying the show is bad, i said literally it was my only issue with the show. we are saying it's just...strange, that they remove japan having reverse engineered european style guns 100 years prior, (and having been introduced to gunpowder before the europeans.) to prop up an idea that traditional old samurai run at riflemen and get mowed down ! the west is superior !...if that was the case they could of easily put this in the boshin war, still within the edo period, still with a tokugawa shogun, still with white men in japan, and it'd fit, as there WERE traditionalist samurai charging gunmen then, and by 1868 Japan was indeed behind the west in gunpowder/military tech. But in 1657, it was not.
