This movie was beautifully done. I've always wondered what Fitzgerald would think if he saw this. He died thinking that his book was a flop.

+markmalkin No he didn't. The main theme of the book is the hollowness and shill nature of the upper class and the corruption of the American dream. If you don't get this you should read the book again.

Well, guys, I suppose one of the most important themes of the book was that you really can't repeat the past, but most of us believe we can (as it was mentioned in last words of the book about the current). Not only failure of American Dream ;-) The film did it justice to some point, but I still think it could have been done better. Characters are more complex in the book than they are in the film and Daisy was originally more vain than hurt. But maybe that's only mine POV. God Bless You!

+TheAngelloveanime but he also had affairs with multiple women throught the course of the book. maybe as a cover up, who knows. He could've been bisexual. But he also has a lot of "I don't know"s in the book, and maybe his sexuality was one of them
@Romyyy9
@Romyyy9 8 жыл бұрын
Jean-Luc DeCoster Yes, I also think that these reasons could explain why he acted that way and why he had affairs with women. Either that, or it was to make the book more acceptable considering the time it was published.

Baz said that he made the parties this large because in the 1920's Gatsby's parties looked like what it did in the movie to people. He wanted the audience to experience what it felt like to readers when the book came out. It's genius

+E FM because nowadays R&B and urban (there isn't much rapping, actually) are equivalent to what jazz represented back then, that's why. It's the same thing they did with the ball scene in A Knight's Tale, they played Bowie as an equivalent to what their classics felt back then.

Ah, okay. (Knight's Tale was really nice!) It does make sense; I don't despise R&B/ect, but I guess it's just some of the songs they used for the movie is all. (i.e., at the speakeasy, and when Nick got drunk at the party, ect.)

peanutbutter & jelly time yes and no.... the move is more illicit than the book. There’s no real swearing unless words like, “damn” are too offensive for you (it’s Okay if it is). It’s very minimal. it has strong language like that and there’s a bit of scandalous infidelity implied but no sexual acts are written in or anything like that. It’s not smutty or erotic. There are definitely more modern books and songs that are more inappropriate than this book. It’s very beautifully written and if you can keep in mind the period it’s written in and appreciate it from that perspective it’s not a terrible pain to read. If you like everything to be said and described at face value and don’t like metaphor... you might dislike it but other than that it’s definitely worth a read.

Saw the movie.... I don't care if you're not into Jazz, but considering the story's set in the 1920s I was disappointed to barely hear Jazz and hear poorly placed rap music. I know you need to connect to kids, but for godsakes, the soundtrack made the whole experience irritating.

I loved how Gatsby snapped and told Tom to shut up, and after buttoned his jacket and apoligized, Leonardo DiCaprio is really an incredible actor.

I think the reason they put modern music in the trailer (and maybe the movie idk) instead of 20's music is because these modern songs really express the emotions

Gatsby lied about his meager roots because many of the people in his new circle looked down on aristocrats who had ‘risen from the ashes’ and favored those who were born into the nobility and he wanted to be part of their world so badly. If they didn’t value virtues like diligence, fortitude, prudence and perseverance and wouldn’t accept him for who he was, he should have known, their company wasn’t worth keeping.
