Hey Brandon. I was up there this weekend also. I was talking to one of the club members there and he was telling me the history about that big Avery Traction Engine. Seems the original owner out in I believe Idaho had just started using the very first week that he had it. Pulling 12 bottoms, they got stuck in a soft sand bog, and ended up burying it up to the fire box. They had tried multiple times using large teams of horses to pull it out, but were never able to get it out. They finally gave up and abandoned it and it sat there until just a couple years ago when a group of the guys went out there and disassembled it and trucked the pieces back here. They spent the last few years rebuilding it and restoring it back to operation. Love the history of all this old machinery.

I used to love this place when we lived in Michigan City. I knew some of the people who were involved with running the place at the time. I visited there for their bug Labor Day weekend a couple of years ago. I was really disappointed at how commercialized it seems to be now. Some of their smaller steam trains seem to be gone. It's still an interesting place, but not like it used to be.

Yeah the reason why it’s gone is because someone bought all of them. The individuals who had steam here had their locomotives bought by another person.

We have one or two small steam engines that we have been test running for a while. Once we are satisfied, then they need to pass inspection before pulling trains for the public. Don't hold me too 'cause I'm a fairly new volunteer, but from what I heard, a lot of the original owners of the craftsman steam engines have passed and their engines were not part of the museum, thus were sold off.

@@owenjones9659 I just thought it was really cool to see them pick up their steam engines and set them on a platform to fire the boiler.

Got to get the kids involved with the show. To keep it going into future all shows have lost older menbers who kept them going. We hope the kids will tske over ,hate to see this history lost .
