Thank you for an extremely respectable, well researched telling of the molasses flood! Almost everyone skims over the story of the tank itself, and focus on the immensity and totality of the overall destruction. As usual for Simons team; An incredible amount of detail, brilliantly constructed, into a short sweet sticky tale.

On January 15, 2019, for the 100th anniversay of the event, a ceremony was hels in remembrance. Ground-penetrating radar was used to identify the exact location of the from 1919. The concrete slab base for the tank remains in place approximately 20 inches (51 cm) below the surface of the baseball diamond at Langone Park. Attendees of the ceremony stood in a circle marking the edge of the tank. The 21 names of those who died in, or as a result of, the flood werw read aloud.

I've worked with molasses few years ago. We also used to heat it to a certain temperature and then mix some enzymes with it, in order to eventually add it to animal feed. Anyway, after a fire at the company, we had to improvise. So after some technical work, we pumped few tons of molasses into a tank and used steam to heat it. But since temperature measurements were nothing like in the previous situation, (I think due to placement of the probes) the temperature got too high only few degrees, and the whole tank of molasses began to bubble and foam until almost everything got out of the tank. I'm talking about a tank of some 14 feet high. Molasses when it reach a critical temperature, you cannot contain. It keeps itself moving.

One of the oldest pieces of advice in history don't cut bloody corners when it comes to extremely dangerous fluids honestly what a load of ridiculous hogwash making a timeline for an object that needs to hold such a huge amount of fluid means you need to take as much time as it does you need to label it correctly you need to make sure your materials are sound and unbreakable but no these twats decided they wanted to be cheap as possible and also quick as possible When it comes to iron one of the strongest materials you need to make sure you're damn well sure you're going to the proper specification and you're not cutting corners anywhere because otherwise shit like this takes place and it can lead to severe dangerous and troubles and also the part about dumping molasses into the ocean are you trying to poison fish are you trying to kill an ecosystem cuz it seems like you really are trying to do that
