Can someone explain why he would drop then pick up the periapt of vitality on blade master every time he healed?

It makes the healing more effective. Let's assume that healing normally would bring the hero to 80% of his max hp, but if the periapt is dropped then the same healing would bring him to 90% instead. And when he picks up the periapt again, he will stay at 90% hp (that's how the periapt of vitality works, it keeps you at the same percentage of health after you pick it up or drop it), so he ends up healing for more.

Lowers health total, so when you heal it is more healing relative to total hp. So if heal brings you from 30% to 70% with periapt but from 30% to 85% without it, then you should drop your max hp, heal then pick it back up because it then sets your current hp to match your percent hp
