The Great natural pool adventure continues! Building our own natural pool

Finally we get the walls of the swimming level up. After the grim realisation that we needed to double the thickness of the walls it has been a long slog building these all the way round. It isn't the brick laying that takes time but mixing and pouring the concrete which we've been doing by hand all 52 tons so far (If Jolyon's crude maths is correct).
We've not quite finished yet but this still felt like a Milestone worth celebrating in this epic Chateau DIY project.

A bit about us - We are Chris (the tall one) and Jolyon (the less tall one). We met working at the Foreign Office, and got married in another Château south of Paris in 2018. We have both always separately had a dream of living in a Château, so it was a match made in heaven. We also have our gorgeous St Bernard, Bo, - she loves Château Trois Cloches, and can regularly be seen working in the garden, digging, or moving branches for us. The end goal is to have a beautiful venue available for big groups to hire, or the perfect location for a wedding! We try to capture as much of the renovations as possible for KZbin, so do follow along to see the transformation. We are big believers in bold o design, which fits with the Chateau's Belle Époque era. Château Trois Cloches translates to Castle of 3 Bells.

Hola! Thanks. We found out Bo is equivalent to 105 years old which is what a sign at the vet’s said was her equivalent human age for her 11 years. So we’ll let her have a hall pass 😁

lol we’re probably already stretching the definition of natural pool to its limits a diving board would probably be too much but I would love one. When I was a kid I loved diving

This maybe a dumb question, so forgive me, is it possible to lay all your bricks to the required height and then hire a cement truck to fill inside the bricks? If yes, the cost might be high. Looks like a super hard slog for you! You have great perseverance!

@@evapatterson-vf1cs I don’t think this is an option because a large truck won’t fit in the gates of the chateau. I think it’s too far of a distance to use a tube to pump the concrete from the street. It’s a slow process, that’s for sure!

Yes that’s right. In hindsight it might have made sense to knock down the front gates to get a truck in but I think we’d have had to chop down a very large tree next to the gates too. So we’ve been plugging away by hand 😩

I'm a good deal older than the two of you but one common denominator we have is we start too many new projects at once. As a result, they take longer and cause stress in the meantime. I've finally learned my lesson this summer and won't do it again. I wish you success with this pool. DA

We know this is a project you have not particularly enjoyed ( understatement 😜) Difficult to get motivated to do something you dislike doing. The pool is looking good , keep up the good work. If you noticed mosquitoes in the standing water , will the pool not attract them when it’s finished? Think the Pethericks can supply a T shirt that says Crack On 😂. X

When the pool is full it won’t be static so hopefully that will reduce mosquitoes. We might also have more natural predators that will eat them and keep them under control.
