The GNR is an experience and a half. I love it because it really brings out the best of the northern east, they're some of the friendliest people you come ever meet. The crowds really make the whole thing worth it. South Shields has a great beach, so next time you should have a stroll along the sands before heading back into the city. Top tip is to hydrate the day before not at the start line...the number of inexperienced runners struggle with holding it in until the race starts. And you've seen the queues. You can do quick times but you need to be one of the faster runners, ie sub 1:50 as everyone is moving quickly. I'm still debating whether to do it again next year which would my fifth time, it's so much fun.

@@thristytothrive As I get older and slower the atmosphere becomes more important. Manchester next month may be my last attempt at sub 1:45. But I've never been tempted to take on a full marathon as it seems to be really stressful physically and emotionally for most. Yet I know someone and she loves them especially ultra trails. Good luck with the 42.2km...remember it about the finish line not the finish time.

Good luck for manchester! I hope you too can enjoy it all on the day too… I love that last sentence you wrote right there! Finish lines, not finish times ☺️ I’m super humble in knowing the marathon is no joke, and you’re right about the training part too! 🎢 😅 so finishing will be a privilege! And enjoying it and finishing 42.2 has to be the aim for me! Putting ourselves in these scenarios where we’re challenging ourselves, pushing and putting one foot in-front of the other is the real win! 🥰 and THAT should be celebrated! 💫

Thank you for this great Vlog it conveys a lot about this enormous running experience!! It was my first time at the GNR as well, & I totally agree that it is the best experience ever!! I actually live in Portugal & I have to admit that every race I have done since always seems to come up short.... there is just no comparison to the GNR. ❤
