The Great North Walk - Sydney to Newcastle with commentary

This video is an animated fly over of the Great North Walk. This bushwalking and hiking track links Sydney to Newcastle. This fly over is generated in Google Earth, you can see the track and photos of some of the highlights along the way. There is even some pretty corny background music as you watch and an unscripted commentary to give you a sense of where you are.

Not exactly in the category of the worlds most dangerous hike nor the sought of video footage that will get me on an episode of Bear Grylls Man Vs Wild, but I had fun making the video and walking the walk, hope you enjoy it to.

What a great walk-through you have done here! Well done! My son and had I completed this 250 km walk in 2009 over 9 separate sections from Newcastle to Sydney. We are now doing it all over again but in the opposite direction. For anyone considering doing the Great North Walk, BE WARNED. Once it's in your blood, it's hard to get it out of your veins!

I am EXTREMELY late to the party, but I'm considering doing a thru-hike with some friends later this year (autumn or winter school holidays). I was wondering how we would know where drinkable (i.e. nothing that can't be filtered out) water is. I've done the first 80km by myself, and never had any idea which streams were drinkable, or where the next water source was. If anyone had advice on this, it'd be welcome.

Just did the first 20km of this walk today from the Newcastle end (Queens Wharf to Warners Bay). 'twas most lovely! I plan to do a few more single-day routes to work off my pot belly somewhat before I tackle the whole 2 week journey.
