There’s an example of it in one of the Kharadron overlords novels actually. The dwarves of the Iron dragon have to fight off a massive Skaven warship. The book is Profit’s ruin. Perfect for Skaven and dawi fans alike.

If looking for some inspiration for lore/schemes/art, Clan Skurvy was the pirating Skaven clan in the Old World and was notorious for its ramshackled fleet of captured and altered vessels where every Skaven was suspected of mutiny, which is just as well as they are all planning to do it sooner or later, as Captains often tended to "accidentally" fall overboard or walk the plank while sailing if they weren't careful. It's such a neat and fitting idea for Skaven and happy to see the theme carried to AoS!

That’s all we need… flying rats 🐀 😄 depends on the objective but would love the idea to pack torpedoes shells or capsules dropping from above, full of clan rats or giant rats to overrun the enemy vessel

My first thought for a Skaven air ship would be to have a warp lightning cannon running through the whole length of the ship. Imagine that just rise out of the clouds to ambush other ships.

I love the idea of a Moulder skyfleet based out of a colossal sky-whale theyve hollowed out to serve as their horrifically fleshy aircraft carrier/lab.

'You don't need to win the fight with the guys on the boats, if you set the boats on fire' God that's such a Skaven thing to say. For a Skaven ship? I'd want something that represents the endless numbers and 'death by a thousand cuts' kind of Skaven. A minor Rictus clan captures one of those floating islands the Crusades use and turn it into a hideous, foul floating rat warren, from which they launch hundreds of tiny unique craft, mostly piloted by a Skavenslave or two, which just drown the enemy in numbers. After the fight, all the scrap is collected and reused to make more little junk ships.

Did you ever play Dreadfleet, Doug? It was a naval combat game set in the Old World and the Skaven ship was the hollowed out, reanimated carcass of a whale-like creature. I think it would be cool to update that concept for AoS with some kind of reanimated flying monster.

My skaven airship? Clan tezzla has blueprints for a zeppelin which holds many many warpstone bombs. Yes yes.

Ship idea 1: Its not a ship, its a Hellpit Abomination strapped to a few balloons and wings grafted to it. Ship idea 2: Hellicarrier like from Sheild where the quad propellers are re-purposed doomwheels and the runway is used to launch eshin assassins in flying squirrel suits from long distance. My work here is done.

My KO is converted to be skaven and I use the KO rules. Depending on your build like mine having 50 troops and a few ships (2nd ed) its supprisingly hoardy. I modeled the "debt setteler torpedo" on one of my gunhaulers... its a warpstone chunk on a pole with bombs strapped to it... a dirty warpstone bomb!

If you want to read about Clan Skryre airships, read the "Code of the Skies" novella or "Profit's Ruin", both of which involve Kharadron versus Skaven air battles. The one in Code of the Skies actually seemed much bigger than an Ironclad IIRC. It also looked pretty different, I believe it had wings and was described as looking like "a giant metal bat".

If i where to make a skaven ship it would be a zeppelin that is covered in giant warpstone shards that brings a giant magic storm with it. We are talking acid rain, green lightning and winds strong enough to topple villages. And of course each of those crystals can fire off mini warp lightning blasts.

That is soooo cool. Easly my favorite faction for reasons like this! I wanna 3D a hat for my admiral warlock. A skaven ship for boarding the enemy vessel and planting bombs!!!

Yes! I didn't realise this was in the Lore! I wanted to do this conversion, but my budget didn't allow to buy both a Skaven army and KO army to the only have one army at the end. But these would be awesome minis! Doomwheels rolling off one airship onto another for maximum mayhem and destruction 👌👌

Someone else said they've already done a whole force, and I whipped up one gunhauler myself. I came across a huge box of bits I could use on it, it was a very fun project.

As for Skaven ship types, two come to mind. The first is a mobile jezzail gun platform allowing the snipers to move and shoot simultaneously, but maybe being less accurate. The second being a troop transport that looks suspiciously like the Ranger-plane from Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers. You know, a bleach bottle suspended under a balloon with flapping wings and suction cup landing gear. 😆

I think Warhammer TV showed off someone’s converted Skaven army from KO and it was awesome. Agree it probably wouldn’t play like what you would expect. I think my skaven ship would have doom wheels on the side and look like one of those old river ferries.

So the timing of this video amazing, literally just last night I was looking for a paintsceme for my Ironjaws I found the "Skybasha Warclan", who are the Ironjaw equivalent, they fly around on their scraps-craft and wear silvery armor, unfortunately that's about as much lore I could find on them. Also for my Skaven air ship I would combination of the Gunhauler and the Doomwheel.

Imagine @2+tough if you will an Arkanaut Ironclard with a "Great Skyhook" on a 180 degree swivel mount and a deck lined with heavy ratling guns also on 180 degree swivels. So you hook your target like a skyborne whaling ship that will then just unload MASSIVE amounts of warpstone fire no matter where it tries to move to while the captain rides on the prior swinging his pirate hat a la Dr strangelove

This is a great concept for an army! Whole air ships with chain guns, warp flame throwers, Jazzails, mortars and warp lightning cannon's! 😍 Mobile weapon teams is a scary thought! Really enjoyed this video and I see there ships to be a bigger version of each of the KO types as Skaven Tech wouldn't be as refined. Now I'm sure I've seen somebody has done or started a Skaven Airfleet. If I was to start this project I'd start with the smallest to try it out and use the current Skaven warmachine range to get bits for them. So a warp lightning wheel with wings and an balloon on top to keep it afloat! 😁

A skaven bomber designed as a zeppelin but whose “bombs” are just skaven thrown overboard holding kegs of warp stone powder with a lot fuse

Mine would somehow use warp stone to affect gravity. So an intense warp stone bomb that will drop a ship that it lands on. The skaven fly above the ship, activate the bomb and drop it on another ship. The gravity of the bomb gradually increases over time ultimately causing the other ship to fall out of the sky.

Hilariously legit my brother kit bashed this army for table top. His ships have Skaven crew and additions but yes uses ko rules. But he's been toying with Zon rules for the battering rams.

I could see some air units in the next skaven Battletome. An easy way to sell a new type of miniature for the army. Anyone heard any gossip as to when the next Battletome drops?

I would put money on a future Skaven release featuring a new air based clan. I see it as more likely than a Moulder or Eshin update (sorry to fans of that).

I think there's enough room for it. Grotbag Scuttlers and Skybasha Ironjawz are Destruction factions that use airships, and Cities of Sigmar canonically have their own airships they use for trade (albeit primitive compared to the Kharadron's).

I know it's a bit late, but if I was going to build a skaven sky ship it would have 3 lightning cannons. One mounted in the haul the other two either side of the engine.. lore wise it would be 1 cannot that fired a single massive beam by combining the power from all 3.. game play wise I don't know what kind of damage it would do but I would make it require the roll of a d6, on a 1 it sapped the power and the engines shut off.. roll again next turn, on a 2+ the engines started up again and it can act as normal on another 1 the ship crashes and is destroyed 😆
