Very interesting set of videos. I like the style of delivery despite the sound issues.

Excellent graphic overview of how these different platelets and faults move against each other. I had no trouble with the sound personally, but there is closed captions available on KZbin. I use closed captions a lot these days for certain movies. It works great

Interesting video. What about this assumption: both plates are relatively cold and rough where they meet, so the Indian plate takes the Sumatra plate with it due to friction. The Indian plate technically rolls the Sumatra plate under and downward creating that bulge which makes up that line of islands infront of Sumatra.

Well - I've not discussed mechanisms (apart from localisation of the fault) - just kinematics. Why questions are harder to answer than what...

great video prof Rob - but you need a new microphone sound quality needs fixing please

If people would understand the way magma is moving then it would be very easy to understand why here are two faultlines. When a tectonicplate is being moved and a magmachannel is surpressed or simply saying blocked magma can make a new magma channel. And with doing this you get a lot of volcanoes and a seperate faultline, breakingline. Thats what you are seeing here. Not much difference with the San Andreas faultline situation.

The occurrence of stoms, rains, ice, and floods at times and in unexpected places, confirms my theory the end of the (dynamic horizontal movement )which needs to balance and it sill under control to balance... But about earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, sinkholes, tsunami, dry lakes and rivers, flow of water from the mountains and hills, explodeand of eyes water from the ground, formation of new mountains or islands, collaps of mountains ,and cracks on ground,& ,& ,&,they are out of control or balance... Note :The earth will become like Venus... Yousif A Tobiya

Science is really awesome, but unfortunately sir.... That country doesn't have initiative.... SDM rendah, klo trjdi bncana gempa besar, mreka cm mementngkan diri sndiri.... Org2 kolot yg tk prnah mengindahkan sains. Mnjlani hidup tnpa prnh tau klo sains adlh bagian dr upya manusia utk memahami penciptaan Tuhan

which translates as: Human resources are low, if a major earthquake disaster occurs, they will only care about themselves.... Old-fashioned people who never pay attention to science. Living life without ever knowing that science is part of human efforts to understand God's creation

@@robbutler2095I'm from that country sir, respect for you 🫡. First what i wanna tell you is the indo govt lack of science yo prevent big incident like earthquake and tsunami, second the settlements of indonesian is very dispersed, especially in Sumatra and Java. They built houses near cesarean, near volcanoes. Third indonesia govt until now....they're not including city layout science to built city whereas many of expert here, our govt especially regional govt are gangster, what you look in news about indonesian president good like jokowi is just in the central govt, but regional govt is sucks

@@pustakarileks7404 Indeed - effective town planning and enforced building standards are critical for building resilience to natural hazards - of all kinds... a fundamental duty of all levels of government.
