Virgin Soviet T-72 vs Chad Toyota. Chad Toyota; Capable of holding up to 15 men with multiple weapon systems. Will go so fast it literally can't set off anti-vehicle mines. Kills tanks and aircraft just for fun. Dodges incoming attacks with ease. Thin skin means explosive shells wont detonate inside the vehicle. Cheap and easy to produce, pride and workhorse of any military. Virgin Libyan tank; Only crewed by three, has to compensate by carrying soldiers on it's engine deck and turret. Fat and slow, easily blown up by mines. Easily killed by literally everything, Toyota regularly makes fun of it for not being an effective fighting vehicle. Armor makes sure explosive shells detonate inside and kill entire crew. Cheap to produce, simple, and pride of Soviet military, still fails Libya miserably.

I own the same model and its true. The era they were built in was a golden age for japanese cars for various economic reasons and so japanese car makers adopted a strategy of over-engineering. This is why you can do things like make absurd power on stock japanese engine blocks of the time. Add to this that the technology of the time was... Id call it the apex of simple engineering. For example the diesel hilux has no ECU. The battery is only used to heat the glow plugs and crank the engine on start up. After that it will just go. Its why top gear was able to keep it running despite all the abuse. At its heart its simple and well made

Aidan Orisit The 90s for japanese cars was probably the best era ever, even better than the 50s and 60s for America cars. You had the makes-1000-hp-on-stock-internals supra, extremely advanced yet reliable tech on the R34 and 3000GT, and more legends, like the mazda miata, MR2 turbo, RX7, etc. Plus, that era made what is possibly the most reliable car ever made, the Camry, the unkillable hilux, and more. And that isn’t even considering the amazingly weird JDM exclusive oddities

In the Greek army light fighting vehicles are nicknamed light Cavalry ( like the ancient horse archers ) while tanks are called also heavy Cavalry ( like the medieval cataphracts ) since both are having the same mission and using the same tactics with their ancient counterparts As a matter of fact the official name for the tank in Greek military terminology is " τεθωρακισμένο άρμα μάχης" tethorakismeno arma maches literally " armoured battle chariot " !!

You clearly don't. No one supports a civil war, at best, you support a side in a civil war, which means there's two factions at least. Who is to say who are the good guys, and who are the bad guys then ? Which means it's a local conflict with local actors. Or what, you think civil war magically pop up ?As for why France intervene, well, take the current operation in Mali; there's a very good reason, the local government asked for France's help. And since it's legally binding, France was forced to intervene But here you are, vaguely talking, and you're basically saying that because France is an actor in the region, every trouble in the region can be inputed to it. But that's not how the real world works, though. You could look at most of the examples since the decolonization period, and you would find a similar pattern, with a very gray situation, complex political issues But well, if I'm wrong, please, give an example with real proof.

@@jarlboof The old Citroen Berlingos built on van chassis begs to differ. You can run them as workhorses for ages wihtout them braking down. And with the mileage they get and their initial cost compared to cars usually loved for their reliability (hilux, Subaru, Mercedes, and so on), you end up with loads of money left over for the occasional repair. 2CV is also probably the most reliable car ever made (with significant competition from some of the old russians) The only issue with French cars (also works for FIAT) is that they are built for city driving, so they appear wimpy to a lot of customers. A small, weak, well tuned and high quality engine isn't going to wow anyone. Even if it is perfectly adequate to the driving they are meant to do. And it also means the cars are generally light - further improving the mileage and reliability.

Bmw made a wonder device for simplified & superior operation of the complex supercharged Mercedes engine). It was equipped with various inputs and outputs, with one main control lever to adjust RPM, Prop pitch, boost control, ignition timing & fuel mixture, all on the fly for the pilot. This device allowed operation of the fighter plane much easier on the pilot in a dogfight. One lever instead of several, which all required constant monitoring & adjustment for maximum performance and engine longevity.

A friend of mine spent about 10 years in US SOF and was one of the first American troops to be sent into Afghanistan in 2001. They deployed so quickly that they couldn't bring along any heavy equipment or vehicles. Instead, they were literally given briefcases full of cash (I guess that's something actually not made up by Hollywood) to buy what they needed once they were in-country. The vehicles they could get there were Hi Luxes and Land Cruisers, the latter they nicknamed "The Hajji Humvee". When Big Army later got into Afghanistan they showed up with Humvees and other American vehicles. My friend's unit (and most other SOF units he knew of) rejected the offer to go back to these vehicles, finding the Toyotas to be more not only more capable in every respect, but also a lot more comfortable, comfort being something that the Humvee notoriously lacks. This friend of mine drives a Hajji Humvee to this day and claims that he'll never buy anything else again. A few years back he had a roll-over on a highway in one with his wife and infant daughter inside. The vehicle was a write-off but none of his family (including himself) were hurt.

I think the fact the US and Russia are now using technicals shows that their main advantage isn't necessarily cost, it's logistics. Our current lightly armed and armored troop transports are awkward top-heavy things that weigh a fucking ton and aren't great in terms of speed and maneuverability. There's also vision, looking through shitty armored glass isn't fun and reduces your situational awareness, which may turn out to be more deadly than being unarmored.

Camo consists of rubbing mud on the body so it is free. You can mount up various weapons on them(GPMGs, Cannons, Turrets). This is the future of warfare for guys not in a big budget military. The Russians even came out with a Doctrine for this type of fighting.

One of the important aspects of using technicals is that pick-up trucks are not listed on any arms agreements or embargos. Thus even in places where you can't get actual military gear, you can freely import civilian vehicles, then add weapons later.
@fatcoyote2

Technicals are surprisingly effective vehicles. The main things you have to upgrade are the axles and superstructure on the back-end so that weapons can be mounted for maximum efficiency.

I've always loved the idea of customized battle wagons, technicals outfitted for specific roles (machine guns, mortars, AT cannons, rocket launchers, etc.) used to rapidly outmaneuver enemies. Those would be great for a modern form of light cavalry/horse archers and could be supported by light tanks that have powerful engines to move quickly and can be air dropped in, and if they need to go up against armor you can just slap an oversized gun on the thing like the old ASU-57

Just contact you local part time car dealer/arms dealer to get the MG as an upgrade. For a few thousand, you can get a PK or DSHK installed, for a bit more, you can put sheet metal plating on front view to prevent being taken out while driving it. Another bit, you can upgrade from DSHK to ZSUs, AAA guns or recoilless rifles. If you are filthy rich, put on some Grads or smaller launchers. If your car got wrecked, just contact him again and they will out the weapon on your new one. If you are decided to take your life and want to take as many lives as you get and see yourself in some Jihadi Paradise, give the dealer some more, he will give you drums filled to the brim with gunpowder, connected with bunch of wires, and an improvised detcord. The dealer will also throw in armor. Note: This is sarcasm or a joke.
