Cracking 2 day hike J+M, hardly anyone about, great. Funny how your itching to get out into the hills and after just 2 days, thoughts of chilling at home fills your head. Me too. Love having 1-2 days chill out at home after a big hike. 🤙 🍺
@HoundsofHowgate5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Justin. 🐾👍 Yeah, I really like a best of both type weekend hikes. It's like you pack in more in a shorter period of time! I'm always thinking about long multi day hikes though. Those are the ones I like best. Then you can forget about everything else and just concentrate on being out there. Then when you are heading home you don't feel bad about it and enjoy it. I'd hate to hate coming home if you know what I mean!

I’m with you, John. Enjoyed hundreds of day walks over many years, usually circuits. Thru hikes are a different experience. Next level. More physically demanding, require more prep, but give a real sense of freedom and fulfilment you don’t get on day walks. The satisfaction lasts ages, doesn’t it? Months even....

A nice walk for Moss! Spent many a good night in Callendar on the lash. Motorcycles would come from all over the Central Belt, drink until shutting time and then pitch tents or cowboy camp (pass out in the grass) along the rivers edge towards Kilmahog,

@@HoundsofHowgate my issue is kit Vs money .... Got lucky with my macpac Zenith tent (work colleague clear out) , but have a bulky sleeping bag and naff rucksack. If I wait until I get 'the right ' gear, I'll never do it again
@HoundsofHowgate5 жыл бұрын
A synthetic sleeping bag then? To be honest you don't need expensive gear. I only have some expensive kit cos I'm a pure gear freak and I decided to start hiking seriously last year (length of Scotland plus others) so invested in some expensive kit. I still have a 13 quid stove and 60 quid rain gear etc though. The main thing is just getting out there. Doesn't matter how or what you do. 🙂👣🐾👍

See you are carrying an Osprey backpack. What happened to the Zpacks Arc blast. Just got one for the Skye trail in two weeks. Saved myself over 3kg over my osprey Atmos. Thanks mate!
@HoundsofHowgate5 жыл бұрын
Aye, the Atmos is real heavy. I really like the Osprey Exos as it's got loads of features and is a good balance between weight and durability. Under 1kg without the top lid if memory serves me correctly. I've still got my Arc Zip: I just keep it good for proper long multi day hikes where weight saving is more important. The rest of the time I'll use the Osprey as I don't mind if that gets bashed up a bit. You know like, in and out of cars, on public transport, a lot of use and handling etc. In fact I now have the Exos as my multi day regular, Arc Zip for big hikes, Mountain Hardware SouthCol 70 (waterproof) for winter backpacking, a Berghaus Freeflow 40 for big day hikes and a small Osprey for travel every day use. It's a bit of a backpack fetish I seem to have! 🤔🙂🐾👍

@@JenniferLupine yeah, there is a great online resource that basically has almost every mountain hike and long distance route in Scotland. It's awesome because you view online maps, download them, print off route descriptions, download GPS .gpx files and also get the routes for the VoewRanger app. Plus you can read people's walk reports etc. Really good. It's called: www.walkhighlands.co.uk

Crackin vid m8 as always, I'm just after finishing it at the weekend (29/08/2020), and just in case anyone watching your vids is thinking of doing it in 2020, the road from Stronachlachar to Trossachs pier is closed for clearing last years landslip (has been since november 2019), there are two locked gates at each end, and trust me it's not that easy to get round/over/under them, and there is a lot of workies about and heavy vehicles. There is no mention of this on The Great Trossachs Path website so just thought i would give anyone a heads up on this. You and Moss keep up the goodwork on the vids hope you get out and about and post some more, cheers 🍺

The yellow flowers are on the gorse which, to me smells like a burnt wax, its nice and really come out strong in the sunshine. BTW whats with the Defender, I throught you had a dacia Duster? May the force of the Barries be with you. Cheers OJ
