You need a pair of side cutters when trying to cut figures away from the sprue. :) Cut with the flat side to the piece to avoid damaging it. Not that you'll ever end up doing this, but I thought I'd just toss that out there ;)

You nailed it Marco (As usual). Great fun. I have been struggling to find a good appealing game of this period but nothing popped until this. I picked this up last week and is now my go to for fun yet thematic gaming on this topic. The tank expansion is a must as it adds more flavor without altering the rules. PS... I don't mind the brown or grey drab soldiers included as to me it also adds to the theme of dirty muddy soldiers who all look alike as it really was. I have the upgrade "Centenary edition" and they changed the soldiers to non spurred so no need to use a spur cutter. This is my only WWI game in my collection and all I need. Great review thank you!

Hey. Thanks for the video and i have a question. Where can i get these stands for the paper soldiers like you was using in this video? I saw this stands at first (in your video) and i think its for something else, and where can i find it or how do they called?
@johnc.48717 жыл бұрын
I saw those same stands in Hannibal vs. Carthage. Honestly, it looks like a flexible automotive molding cut into 1 inch lengths and turned upside down to hold the game piece. Looks nice enough and adequate. A roll of that shouldn't be too expensive. If you find it before I have a chance to look, let me know. -Thanks.

I see they are going to reissue this game, with minis already off the sprue (hope they are good!)... also The French Army is coming out. Sadly I missed the kickstarter for it. For now I'll try it out on my iPad... also busy stickering all my Napoleonics still... right of passage as you said Marco ;) Thanks for your continued great work on these videos... you do a wonderful job, and we can always count on you for quality content!!!

Marco, I love your Destroy this Mad Brute poster. I've got a copy of that as well, which I bought at the Imperial War Museum in . . . 1980. Oh, well. tempus fugit.

Michael Neubauer I bought it at the Getty Museum last spring. Time flies indeed. Sic transit gloria mundi.

game looks interesting enough, whats the difference in price between this and memoir 44?

I respectfully disagree Marco, the minis look great and lots of em. Just get some finger nail clippers and have some patience. My dissatisfaction lies in the terrain tiles. Nevertheless C&C is a fun system. Happy Bday btw.

There are hobby snips sold at hobby stores with a flat side which work better than nail clippers or scissors. Clip carefully and then use a little sandpaper to gently clean it up. Some plastics are brittle but you should be able to do it with relatively few casulties. For more durable situations a dremlel tool with a sanding wheel can be helpful.

You should try the Axis and Allies Infantry pieces (if you have the game) . They look like they are similar in size.

There are also very nice 15mm metal minis out there, so that's another possibility. This is the only game in the whole C&C series that I didn't pick up yet. You could also work up blocks.

I think that when you pay that much for a game the designer should have figures that can be cut easily. A no buy for me.

This sounds like an interesting game... I really love the board and the terrain components... go to Historical Board Gaming... they have better WWI plastic units... AND tanks from all the countries... ironically, I tried to get two copies of this game but there was complications in paying for it.... in the end, I have two copies of a very old game called "Trench Foot" (paper maps) so if I can put the maps under glass/plastics, they work well. IF you don't want the plastic soldiers... I'll take them... no problem... love the artillery rule and how shells hit... great job

I play tabletop minis since ages, the finer platic ones are really brittle. It is not just you, one need to check first whichthey extremly thin ones are BEFOER cutting out any. Not so smooth or they can write "we reccomend starting with the X model" or point out model A+F + M & N are sensitive take care with these especially... reminds me of the old "fincast" more knows as shitcast among players...

One way to minimize the terrain issues is to code the tiles. Great review, but this game is no "Paths of Glory".

William Mcguinness sure ain't, nor did it ever intend to be, to be fair.

A tip for all Command & Colors games. Replace all infantry or cavalry units with 1/72 scale model figures of the appropriate army and era. I started making my own First World War scenarios many years ago when I bough Memoir '44 using 1/72 Revell German and French WWI figures. I also replaced the standard Memoir '44 and Battle Cry figures with my WWII and Civil War 1/72scale figures. 1/72 figures are easily avalible at most scale model retailers and are usually better quality than the plastic 1/72 figures included in this game, in Memoir '44 and Battle Cry or the wooden blocks in the other games in the Command & Color - series.There are plenty to choose from: www.plasticsoldierreview.com

Marco...here is an alternative to the failed plastic soldiers, IF you choose to it... IF you have old RISK pieces, they will work for the infantry... or use Memoir 44 units, which work a bit better. Maybe that will help... thanks for the review... keep up the good work... have you acquired "The Gristled", the card game inspired by WWI? It sounds like an interesting concept... from Cool Mini, I think...
@jimsmith74459 жыл бұрын
Marco.... have you thought of incorporating a "morale" for hard hit unit? How about "mustard gas" attack... maybe weather? Another factor should be unit effectiveness? More experience... more dice? Green units... one less dice? How about typhus... reducing dice? A little more realism, while not complicating the game...

You sound bored. It would have been interesting to see the actual game components being used instead of paper printouts, it would have helped other people to decide if they like the overall game or not.

I am curious to know how the most horrific--the more meat-grindery--battles play out. (I was also hoping the game would have taxis.)
