The only copy of ancient encyclopedia Kangyur which invented by ancient gurus in Tibet and India is under active rescue mission in Mongolian National Library. Its original tibetan and sanskrit versions destroyed through wars and social instabilities and only Mongolian version is saved intact with Mongolian ancient scholars. Now it is taking another fresh breath of getting digitized hence taking chance of educating people.

(3) Narrator: Each copy contains more than a thousand teachings or sutras of the Buddha. Woodblocks were carved from thed handwritten manuscripts and used to mass produce the Kangyur. These copies spread throughout Tibet and empowered a renaissance of spiritual wisdom that produced some of the greatest Buddhist commentaries the world has ever known, such as the works of Je Tsongkhapa, founder of the lineage of the Dalai Lamas.

(9) John Brady: So far we have catalogued over 35,000 titles in the collection. We estimate there are over 600,000 titles left to do. The other aspect is scanning and digitizing countless tens of thousands of new texts that we estimate we will find there. It will take us over twenty years. These texts have travelled over 3000 years to get to the National Mongolian Library and now for the first time they are being passed on to us, to everyone - uncorrupted, authentic.

(5) of a fatal illness through the [varp?] prayers and offerings. Travelling over the 25,000 miles on the horseback before bringing the irreplacable collection back to his homeland, Dizana Bezaar, a Tsongkhapa-like figure, established an authentic Buddhist lineage in Mongolia. He created a visionary legacy of spiritual expression through his art, poetry and students. The Tempama Kangyur was housed at the Library of the Mongolian Kings from the 1650-ies until the 1930-ies,

(4) But the woodblock carvings of the original Kangyur have mistakes and two of the three original hand written manuscripts were lost to the ravages of time and war. The third and the only remaining original, known as the Tempama Kangyur, was protected in the Potala Palace in Lhasa until the 1650-ies, when the first Panchenlama, Losang Chukyi Gyaltsen, in an act of incredible generosity gave the last remaining original to a Mongolian monk named [Dizana Bezaar?], who had miraculously healed him

The text of this video Narrator: Words of Wisdom exist that open our minds to hidden truths. And every day we lose more of them. John Brady, Executive Director, Asian Classics Input Project: So imagine the libraries of America being destroyed, one by one. This is what happend in Tibet in 1959. The most important thing that the Tibetan contribution has given us is the extraordinary canon of the original Buddha's words.

John Brady: And hence now we have copies of this, that now are being digitized by us, ACIP, for the preservation for future generations. Narrator: Before 1380 Buddha's teachings had never been assembled as one collection, until the Tibetan monk and scholar named Buton Rinchen Ju undertook a 20 year commitment to compile and hand print three copies of a 112 volume collection that came to be known as the Kangyur, which means 'Translations of the pronouncements of the Buddha'.

(7) Narrator: Its manuscripts contain some of the most powerful and profound realisations known to human thought. Great lamas teach from them directly, scholars translate them to decipher their secrets. And now the West has the opportunity to continue this authentic spiritual tradition. Gongchon Nyamochir, Buddhist monk, Tibetan scholar: This Kangyur is going to in Mongolia, Mongolian Buddhist tradition is prospering. Rebirth, regain, yeah?

(8) Gongchon Nyamochir: Now in ACIP - shooting, scanning - all nations looking this Kangyur, yeah? The American Buddhism prospering, I think so. Narrator: The manuscripts contain immense power. Yet they are as fragile as they are priceless. John Brady: The Asian Classics Input Project has recently gained permition to scan a one of a kind, completely uncorrupted edition of the Tempama Kangyur. This will enable the West for the first time to see this remarkable text, in its purest form.

(6) when Buddhism was destroyed in Mongolia. Over 700 monasteries were destroyed, 30,000 monks were killed, the rest were forced to disrobe, and hundreds of libraries were burned. The Kings' Library, now called the National Miongolian Library, remains the repository of the Tempama Kangyur to this day, but invasions, war and the violent forces of time have turned this sanctuary into a tenuous refuge. And yet this is possibly the largest collection of the Buddhist literature in the world.

@@petagonkyi Absolutely not, at 4:21 we have Arabic scripts, for Persian language. Persian used to be the diplomatic language of the Mongolian Empire, you can read about that in Marco Polo's Travels. What mote, you might be interested to know that the traditional Mongolian script, as Uyghur and Manchu scripts, is derived from ancient Syriac, from which the Arabic script also comes. It started being written in columns (from top to bottom, still from right to left) under the influence of the Chinese way of writing.
