In this episode of The Great World Race Podcast, we explore the extraordinary journey of Chirine Njeim, a four-time Olympian who has competed in both the Winter and Summer Games. From her early days learning to ski at the age of three in Lebanon to her transition to long-distance running, Chirine’s story is one of resilience, passion, and relentless pursuit of her Olympic dreams.
Chirine talks about moving to France at 14 to advance her skiing career, and then to Salt Lake City at 16 to pursue her Olympic aspirations. Then competing at 3 consecutive Olympics in 2002, 2006, and 2010. She discusses starting running when she moved to Chicago, then her first marathon in Chicago in 2012, and qualifying for her 4th Olympics in January 2016 after running 3 marathons in 3 months. About The Great World Race:
Over a seven-day period from November 15th-21st 2024, competitors have an opportunity to complete a lifetime goal of running a marathon on each of the 7 continents, starting at the end of the world: Antarctica.
After the round-trip flights to Antarctica for the first marathon, participants are flown by business charter to the other destinations.
Competitors with the fastest average marathon time over the 7 races are declared the winners, with both male and female categories.
There is also a team competition in men’s and women’s categories. Team members are automatically included in the individual competition.
All finishers of The Great World Race will become members of the Global Marathon Club ™. There is an option to run a half marathon for those who prefer the short distance.
