Great to see George Shuffler who invented "crosspicking" as know it, out of necessity! And also his star pupil, the great late great James Alan Shelton, - only player I know who could play tune he tune, solo and cross picked right through, RIP to them both! Thanks for another great video, Peace.

Okay y'all: 3:12 What's this tune Abby Hartley is playing? I thought "Billy in the Lowground," but in key of G? Then I started thinking, there are a lot of fiddle tunes with this chordal structure, but I never did figure out the name of the tune. Is she playing "Billy" in an alternate key? Or whut? It isn't "Rights of Man," is it?

Wayne is an amazing picker, but he uses a thumb pic and a finger when playing....not a flat pick. I wouldn't call him a "flat picker".
@ToondeCorte5 жыл бұрын
Agree but you can see it is a mix of fingerpicking and flatpicking. It is not forbidden to flatpick with a thumbpick. With hybride picking like Clarence did its also a way of fingerpicking. And Clarence was one of the best flatpickers...
@MrZiggy-pm9rz5 жыл бұрын
Brent Mason, maybe the best tele player in Nashville, does not belong in this video. He is NOT a flatpicker. Brent uses a thumbpick and his index finger - same as his tele style. No knock on Brent - just that he's not flatpicking.
@ToondeCorte5 жыл бұрын
Yes, its the same issue that i have with Tommy Emmanuel...i give him the credits because some of the flatpickers want him into the video. Don't forget that you can fine flatpicking with the tumbpick and 2 fingers (hybride picking)
@D28sherid4 жыл бұрын
Nice compilation.....but neither Brent Mason nor Dave Rawlings belong on this collection....neither are picking bluegrass style. Both are monster players in their own right.....Brent a tele master and Rawlings, a unique hybrid picker and perfect compliment to Gillian....but, as I said, neither are picking bluegrass here.
@ToondeCorte4 жыл бұрын
Agree Dennis, they play another style. But also Tommy Emmanuel plays another style but can also play very good Bluegrass. They play it all...
@dodgermartin48955 жыл бұрын
I'll give you a pass calling Wayne Henderson a "flatpicker"
@ToondeCorte5 жыл бұрын
Wayne plays flatpicking whit his tumbpick, not always fingerpicking. The same as Tommy Emmanuel.
@dodgermartin48955 жыл бұрын
@@ToondeCorte I meant no disrespect to Wayne. He can pick with the best of 'em, but I'm a little strict in my assertion... a flatpicker to flat pick needs to have a loose pick between index finger and thumb and the ability to contol it, but I acknowledge difference of opinion... BUT you mentioned Tommy Emmanuel.... there ain't NO WAY or NO HOW **EVER** would I include him as a "Bluegrass" flatpicker...in any way shape or form. He just don't belong.
