When a reporter asked Baresi what he taught Maldini, he replied that he didn’t need to teach him much, as Maldini already had a firm grasp of defending. I didn’t discover soccer until very recently, but am amazed by Maldini’s passion for defending.

This is why he is one of the greatest defenders. Baresi was another great with a different style, more old school defending, hard and tough with a get rid of the ball at all cost. Maldini had all that but also the class and composure while on the ball.

I agree but Baresi and Cannavaro are another two truly amazing defenders. I love Italian football they just seem to love defending as much as scoring goals and as such produce the best defenders without doubt
