Rust without the tec tree was a different beast as everyone had to find items or spend scrap in the appropriate workbench for a random BP of that wb lvl. It made progression vary especially for the casual player and or solo. They had a much harder time of it if you will. I believe this was in part of why zergs became such a big thing. It was fun and challenging but as a now casual solo player I find the tech tree very useful. I'd say having dedicated servers for no tech tree might be the way to go

Console rust didn’t have tech tree for a few months if you couldn’t get a rocket they had a system for 500 or maybe 1000 scrap you get a random t3 bp you didn’t have it took me like 10 times to get one my first wipe

No tech tree is a conundrum, it's great for slowing down progression, let's people live in the tier 1 Era longer, not just everyone roaming AK by day 1. But it's terrible for balance. Benefits the larger groups (or medium groups of chads) way more than the solo or small groups. On a team size gated server it may be awesome. But on a main no thanks.
