Nice masking tech. My all time fav aspect ratio is 2.20:1. It’s perfect for every type of shot. And probably for almost all kinds of stories. It doesn’t chop off the top half of scalps in close ups, and it’s not so wide in the mid shots that it makes the subject feel lost in the room all the time.

I just jumped to certain places in the video so sorry if my question was already answered in it but… what signal are the amps feeding into the wides? As far as I heard their are currently almost no titles that have wides in their mix. Is it a mix of the front and side surround? Or is it just one if these channels again?
@hatoraidcowboy2 ай бұрын
I think the Storm up mixes to the wides.

I still find it sort of funny that with all this awesome and expensive equipment, some still choose to use "Ready Player One" as Atmos demo material. It's not even much of an Atmos track with very little happening in the overheads. It's also mostly a 7.1.2 static encoding. The same with "Top Gun: Maverick." Very lazy Atmos mixes.
@hatoraidcowboy2 ай бұрын
Interesting. I have to disagree with you on RP1. While it might be static there is some very good activity in the height channels. The race scene gives you the kitchen sink with full dynamic range. Is it played out? Maybe….lol but still a great demo to show off your system
@dan_hitchman0072 ай бұрын
@@hatoraidcowboy The activity almost exclusively comes from the lower four surround speakers (given it is mostly a bed channel mix), believe it or not. Only the Top Middle speakers engage for spot effects every so often. You can see it on Trinnov's Atmos viewer plug-in. If you want a demo of actual Atmos 3D audio, there are sequences in "The Guns of Navarone" 4k that blow RP1 and Maverick out of the water. Plus, it utilizes all the speakers because the objects are allowed to pan in every direction giving you a much more immersive experience.

I feel the Ascendo room was the better room. Yeah, the jtr had base but it was too hot for my taste.
@hatoraidcowboy3 ай бұрын
That’s fair. Everyone is different. I was the opposite. I expected more bass from Ascendo with 16 16” subwoofers. Still sounded good though.
@RobZelinka3 ай бұрын
@@hatoraidcowboyWhen I first heard Ascendo subs for the first time, I had a similar reaction to yours. After hearing JTR subs, I expected more from a massive infrasonic sub and large kick subs. As I started to talk to more people about why they chose Ascendo over JTR, the theme was quite common. As I understood it, Ascendo aims for a more natural approach. The best way it was described to me is we know what it is like to experience an airplane flying over our home. Where JTR just feels more violent, the same airplane example just feels more impactful than in a real world experience. I would submit that most want that more violent and impactful sound. I thought I did too until I kept auditioning other Ascendo rooms and felt the level of clarity and detail from those rooms was unsurpassed. That aside, I am not sure what the Ascendo 16s were compared to, and if they were paired with a larger infrasonic sub or running solo. I would submit it is not a level playing field to compare the 16s to the JTRs. Now if you add an infrasonic to the mix, you likely have a closer comparison.

Great review of this highly coveted room. Great mix of hardware, seats, etc. I am sensing the alliances are forming. I am starting to see more and more JTR/ Storm rooms and of course still see a lot of Trinnov/ Ascendo rooms too. I would welcome thoughts from those who heard both rooms.
