It’s 50 years this month since Cloughie arrived at the City Ground.Both him and his pal,Peter Taylor would give us Forest supporters the three greatest seasons in our history from 1977/78 to 1979/80.The League title and League cup in 78,the League cup,the Charity shield,2nd in the League and the European Cup in 79, and then the European cup again and the European super cup in 1980.Only two English clubs,Liverpool in 77 & 78 and Forest in 79 & 80 have done back to back European cup wins,so that’s some achievement.Forest supporters knew when Cloughie came to Forest in 1975 that something could happen,but to achieve what we did in 3 seasons was unbelievable,especially as Forest hadn’t won anything major since the FA cup in 1959 against Luton.There’s no question that Cloughie was the greatest manager England NEVER HAD,but I don’t think he’d have got the job because the FA were afraid of how outspoken he was.Such a shame as I feel he could have won us a European Championship or a World Cup.But Englands loss was definitely Forests gain.😉
