I actually adored this game and plan on doing another play through. That final dungeon that is in encore mode is really hard and will require lots of grinding. The game really has you thinking about some serious philosophical questions once you have neared the end. I like how Alegretto at the end finally believes Chopin's saying that this world is of his own creation and begs his to save Polka's life. At the beginning we see the comparison of terminally ill people can use magic such as Polka and Chopin, but Polka is compared to Chopin's little sister who died of TB back in the day. It was like AIDS was in the 80s, those who caught TB twas a death sentence. As a music major myself I really fell in love with the game and some fellow music students actually performed some of the pieces in the game as a concert. As a pianist myself I've played the Raindrop Prelude many times and am very fond of his music, but a lot of it is very difficult. He is also known as the Poet of the Piano. I agree with you, it should have been a series, there are so many stories they could have told. Especially other composers like Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Ravel, Satie, Tchaikovsky, etc. The only thing I wished I could have seen at the end of the game is perhaps the ghost of Chopin's sister coming to get him and maybe Polka seeing her and finally and truly understand Chopin's pain.

I've always considered this game as "The Tales that never was", since it was made by Tri-Crescendo, which makes it tangentially part of the Tales family to me. The music is also done by Sakuraba. It very much feels like a Tales game gone off into a whimsical direction. Love it to death Edit: I should probably FINISH watching the video before commenting since you mentioned both Sakuraba AND Tales. XD

I'm so sad this game never got the xbox backcompat list because I would love to replay this game and many other classic JRPGs from the 360 era.

I agree, it used to be on PS4 and 5 but got removed when Sony combined PlayStation plus and PlayStation now. It’s a shame because it was the only way to play it with modern hardware. Hopefully we get a remaster soon

This is my fav game, but if you were to ask my fav version, it be the 360 because I felt the gameplay was fairer, if I am being honest. If you're going to make the gameplay harder, than at least do it as a steady pace. 360 had this too, but it wasn't as much of an issue- difficulty spikes. One minute you're facing a super hard boss like Dulce, but then you get an easier boss in Fugue (yes I found Fugue to be easier than Dulce because of 2 factors, there was just one of him, and he wasn't as fast as Dulce, which really makes a difference). Also as someone who DID get 100% on the PS3 version, it took me personally OVER 100 hours where whereas in 360, it only took close to 60 hrs the first time (shorter when I replayed the game). If I were to replay the PS3 version again, I'd honestly just do one playthrough and ignore the optional dungeon. Sidenote- my heart went out to you seeing you struggle with the guard button. I could never counter, so the best I could do was guard. I learned that if my char didn't have great defense, I'd move them away from the foe and face them. Still it's an amazing game and I LOVE IT! The gameplay is still great and yeah pretty original. I enjoy stories that make you think too and this one does get philosophical too. Would I recommend this game, I wouldn't recommend it for people new to the genre because of the difficulty level, at least the PS3 version. 360 version, yes I would recommend it for all skill levels. I would at the tip to grind when you can though. If the company ever remasters this game, I say take the gameplay of the X360, and combine it with the other stuff of the PS3. Oh and improve Crescendo's gameplay a bit. Make him faster if you're going to make him a melee char, he's slower than Jazz, who at least has a big weapon to make up for his slow movement. And speed becomes very important in this game. Oh, the theme Jewel of the Heart is my fav piece of music in Video Games period. It always makes me emotional since it plays at the climax of the game.

FF Tactics for me was that 'special from the beginning' game. i remember even playing the japanese version before we finally got it months later. its still my favorite to this day. we really need a remaster of it!

I very much consider myself a fan of classical music. I love to listen to it while driving and while studying. It's just good music. I played the Xbox version of the game for a couple of hours, but then put it down and eventually traded it in. I felt bad about that and bought the Playstation version, but alas, I never went back to pick it up again. It does seem like a really lovely game though, so maybe someday if I ever get my wild backlog under control I'll revisit it. I do agree, I love the concept of having a game based around a classical composer like this.

Just bought this game. Love the art and colour which is usually severely lacking in the xbox 360 library , with all the darks and greys. Plus classical music🎉

Yeah it’s definitely nice on the eyes. It was a breath of fresh air when that generation was very muddy
