Sorry ,Brett but the Greatest race in swimming history is likely the men's 4 x 100 Free Relay in Beijing. Other possibilities include the 1976 men's 1500 free in Montreal (Goodell, Hackett, Holland), or the 1972 men's 400 IM in Munich (Gunnar Larsen vs Tim McKee...a virtual tie). Maybe Duncan Armstrong's 200 free in 1988 Seoul? Phelps vs Cavic 100 fly in Beijing was not even a world record.

No but Phelps race was soooo clutch he shouldn’t of won that and it topped of the greatest Olympic achievement ever
