Everyone thought Hello Games was just another EA, then they rose from the ashes as a glorious Larian :3

I gotta give Sean credit - he did what most executives would never be willing to do.

Unrelated to the video tbh, but you might like No Rest for the Wicked. Still in early access, but it's one of my favorite games ever. I'm not too excited for light no fire... too much procedural content ends up feeling empty and soulless to me. That's partially why I really like wicked... all of the hand drawn terrain and whatnot feels really meaningful. Another great video!

Thanks for the recommendation, I hadn't heard of that game yet. It looks pretty good! I don't know much about Light No Fire, but it sounds like it'll just be one world and they are putting a lot more attention into making it more interesting. I hope that's the case, because it has a lot of potential.

No Man's Sky is proof the dev team of Star Citizen is either grossly incompetent or they're a bunch of scam artists. SC was first announced back in 2012 and they're still TBA on a release date in 2024! Considering how much money they milked from their community, they could have built a working spaceship in real life by now. Maybe they need to go through the same release disaster and redemption arc? At least Hello Games was pressured enough to release a barely working version of No Man's Sky which they could improve upon. This is a known tactic in game development: Avoid making vertical slices! Instead, make a bare bones proof of concept that you can develop further. Gotta start somewhere.

I've been disappointed with the state of SC. I personally think Chris Roberts wants to have the "perfect" space game, but it's long past time to release the game. I get the impression the game gets close to an official release, then Chris decides 10 more features need to be added, so the game never leaves an alpha state. They could do what NMS did and release the game and add new features in future updates, but I doubt they'll ever do that.

@@KenHarrisio This Chris Roberts sounds like he bit off more than what he could chew. This is the reason you don't make vertical slices. Making a game is like building a house. You don't start with how the roof will look or what color paint would look best on the walls. You build a strong foundation first. And the people building the foundation are not roof tilers or wall painters either. You need some early concept art for your customers, sure, but you don't build these concepts. You build functional products that closely resemble the concept art! And you do have to make up your mind on what you want to achieve and stick with it. The technology keeps progressing, software keeps improving and you find yourself porting your own outdated, unfinished game into new engines before it ever left pre-alpha stage. It's a costly time sink and the project isn't benefiting from it. At this rate they'll never finish. Better let SC go. Even if they release something a few years from now, chances are it's gonna be a buggy mess and not the best gaming experience. And not every space game will get a redemption arc like NMS.

@@robdom91 I'm not sure what Chris has been thinking with SC. It's speculation on my part, but I don't think he's willing to commit to sticking with a feature set. Every time I see a new trailer for the game, they've got more new features they're working on. Meanwhile, Squadron 42 should have released about 5 years ago. In their latest trailer, they showed the galaxy in a single take with no loading screens and it looks impressive, but I doubt the game is even close to release. It's unfortunate, because I think the SP part would be a lot of fun. But yes, you're right about the vertical slices. I'm not sure they used that concept for development on SC.
