So many of his clips are him slithering away from his own goal line despite being corralled by Ireland chasers. Full back built like a centre, sat more Irishmen down than Riverdance. Great servant of the game. Respect from Ireland, Stuart 🇮🇪

At his best, he was either the best fullback in the world or he was in the conversation. The catalyst to Scotland getting out of the banter years. I've had my criticisms of him over the years, but there is no denying his incredible talent and his impact on Scottish rugby. I wish him all the best in his retirement.

Twenty straight minutes of unadulterated rugby perfection from an all-time great. I had the pleasure of meeting him for a photo and having my Exeter Chiefs ball signed before a friendly. Great guy. Really great work, Andy. Loving all the Chiefs clips in here. Really good pacing, too, for a twenty-minute tribute. Mr. Forde pushing the boundaries of experimentation, once again!

Huge loss to Scottish Rugby, absolute Star. I watched them play the AB's at Murrayfield at the end of last year and Scotland chucked everything at their game, it was thrilling, a clincher and Stuart led that Team exceptionally. I live in the Highlands and am a Kiwi, he'll be such a loss and I hope he continues to do something with Club Rugby in Scotland. Whatever you do Mate, know you have passed on that Jersey with huge accolades, respect and love. All the very, very best for your future. 😢

Great tribute, genuinely emotional watching this, followed Hogg since the early days at Glasgow in 2011 whilst everyone else was on RWC duty. Then we signed Rory Lamont who’d been released by Toulon, but he rarely started due to the emergence of Hogg! A couple of months later he was a nailed on test starter for the next 11 years! Even though he’s been around that long, still hoped he’d have 2/3 more seasons in him. Deserves a happy and restful retirement, his body will have taken some batterings over that time! Raised a glass to Hoggy tonight, will always be missed from the stands at Scotstoun and Murrayfield!

It makes me a little emotional watching this. I first got in to Rugby properly around the time that he made his debut at the Millennium stadium as an 18/19 year old. He was the first player in that squad that actually believed that we could compete against the best sides in the world and beat them. Lets not forget that we would either finish bottom or second bottom of the 6N and sometimes went an entire campaign without a win. His ability to beat defenders is unmatched and his kicking game also became the best in the world from a fullback- especially those long kicks where he was in a league of his own. It's just a shame that he never won anything Internationally. We managed to transition from cannon fodder to a team capable of beating any side on our day, however we still lacked the belief at times to get over the line and win a 6 Nations. Our big chance was in 2021 where we had a narrow losses at home to Ireland and Wales that cost us the title. The Wales game decided the tournament, and we were a penalty away (which we should have won right at the death) from taking the crown. I'm not saying the French game plays out the exact same way in the last match, but that was his, and our big moment to win the title. Now the likes of Ireland and France are too good to compete with at the moment. Either way he had a great career. Three Lions tours, two 6 Nations poty, a league title in Scotland and in England and a European trophy. Not bad for a player that came in to one of the worst Scottish sides in history and started out at a club side that wasn't very competitive either. It's going to be weird watching a Scotland side without Hogg at fullback, but this is the nature of sport. Hopefully the next generation can win us something internationally, but the likes of Hogg and Russell etc were so important in giving our fans and players the belief that we could compete in games and win them. Without these world class players then we would still be languishing towards the bottom of the table and happily lapping up a last day victory over Italy to avoid the wooden spoon.

Legit made me cry when I heard he couldn’t make it to the RWC, it would have been such a fitting end to an incredible career (especially given it’s only now that Scotland are rising to the occasion, on fire now). But that’s the nature of this brutal, bizarre egg-chasing sport - sometimes people retire due to reasons completely out of their control, which sucks. It means we can look back now at what he’s accomplished and hopefully he can take a fair bit of comfort in that. What a player, what a career with all its twists and turns. What a pleasure to watch him over the years.

@@luobomu9747 sorry you had to hear from me, he put on social media he really wanted to but his body wasn’t cooperating. It's easy to admire all the tries but an even bigger contribution from Hogg is all the times he comes into the line, side-steps a few defenders and makes yards, giving his team immediate front-foot ball. His ability to get Scotland out of a period of possession that was going nowhere was extraordinary. When he came into the team we were no better than Italy, now we're justifiably 5th in the world. No-one in blue deserves the epithet "legend" more.

If what's come out in the news is true, it's astoundingly disappointing. Retiring on the line that he wants to be with his family more, after they moved to Exeter and supported his career.... even with him cheating on her repeatedly. Rumors of a young woman who's pregnant with his child in Hawick. Refusing to leave the family home forcing them to move in with Gill's parents with a baby that's a couple of weeks old, and three other wee waens. Social media post with him and this new gf off to a spa together. What a sequence of disastrous moves by him. Really feel for his ex, and their kids. How on earth did he think this would go down as he embarks on a new career in the public eye? His agent must be in crisis management mode right now. Felt for him a bit after his recent post about getting abused by Scottish rugby fans at the RWC, but now it seems he deserves everything he gets. His name is now muck, and he's well and truly lost his legendary status. Supposedly the SRU want nothing to do with him now. I know he's pretty thin skinned too, and this is going to (and currently is) come back to hurt him on an emotional level. What an idiot. So disappointing for Scottish rugby fans. I know this might seem like a rather self entitled and unnecessary post, but this kind of thing has to be exposed - and try to ensure the next generation of stars don't set any more bad examples.

Stuart Hogg was one of the best NH fullbacks and one of the best (if not the best) 21st century Scottish players. It's a huge loss for Scotland, I was shocked when I learned he will retire after the WC but now I'm even more shocked that he suddenly retired. He is only 31 but has to stop his career due health problems (but at least he is not Sexton who got more concussions than a mma or boxing fighter).
