It's really true, I went to this shop when I was visiting Shizuoka, and it's by far the best retro shop I've been to in my life, let alone in Japan. I highly highly recommend this shop for anyone visiting the Shizuoka area! Great video!

Thanks for showing us this location. They had a great variety of everything. I like that they have manual's and boxes to piece together a CIB game. It cracks me up when an import from the US sneaks it like that Mortal Kombat manual and box.

The vacuum cleaner shooter is Kyuuin on PS1. I briefly had it in the early 2000's. Its of megadrive quality graphics and plays like Luigi's mansion mechanics. You shoot enemies as normal on flying vacuum cleaners but the mechanic that sells it is that you can suck up the small debris to power up a meter and discharge the debris as a super weapon. I remember the game well because when I sold it on ebay I never realized it had an actual crack in the CD which only affected the music in the high score table. Y36000 is the cheapest i've ever seen it in the past 20 years. Its very rare. Some other kinda lost little gems on PS1 are Adventures of little ralph (made by Sony), Harmful park (expensive and relatively easy shooter), Oh no!, Ten Made Jack and Odo Odo oddity. Check em out they are all Japanese exclusives nobody talks about these days. I love the Ps1 rockman games they were the last ones to maintain 240p resolution, with all later releases being 480i. Parodious Da! on Saturn is the best version.. PS1 version has mid boss level loading and was rushed as a launch game the Saturn version was at least 2 years late to the party but due to Saturns extra RAM has no mid level loading and has a higher sprite count on screen which makes it harder, but you can notch the difficulty down by 1 and get the PS1 experience. When I'm in Japan I just mimmick a turning key action with my hand and say "show case a". This was my favourite Japan video of 2024, since I went to Japan in July I have been bragging about this store no end. I feel its better than shopping at hardoff as it suits my diverse tastes as I like finding mint condition high end product as well as low end games (and the space, I love the space in this store, it makes it a premium shopping experience). My favourite find in the flagship store was a Rockman X2 manual as I recently picked up a Rockman X2 box and game in mint condition. The manual was mint as well. I could not believe it. I only spent 2 hours here as I ran out of money as I said before, but since my Japan trip was a game hunting trip running out of money was a win win. If you ever head out to Nagoya, there is a street with 2 or 3 retro shops right next to each other (2 of them are super potato and Mandarake, there is another store 2 stores left of Super potato as well) and there are some Lucky cat stores dotted around which are similar to hardoff which require train/walk. The only problem I found in Shizuoka is that the flagship store was the only attraction, but since next to the station its not really out of your way if your going to Osaka/Nagoya or anywhere west of Tokyo on the Shinkansen. Thumbs up.

Kyuiin looks like a nice shooter. Though i haven't played it before it might be one ill have to look into further. But at that price... i probably wont be purchasing it any time soon. Thanks for the list of rare PS1 games. The only one i remember hearing about is Harmful Park the rest should be fun to research more on. Wow i didn't know that Rockman on the PS1 maintained a 240p resolution that is really cool. As a rule of thumb i think most games are better on the Saturn compared to the PS1 but ive heard there are a few exceptions to the rule. I will definitely be grabbing That Parodius Da on the saturn at some point in the near future. Im upset with myself for not grabbing sexy parodious a couple of years ago. Yes nice Rock man manual score. I love places that sell manuals they are getting more expensive but i found this place had some good deals. Thanks for the Nagoya shops heads up Adam has been trying to get me out there hope i can check it out soon. I dont know about game shops but Shizuoka prefecture is a beautiful place to visit. There are also quite a few hidden game shops around the area too.

@@ScruffyLookinRGB PS1/Saturn supported 240p and 480i and the developer chose which one fit best. Some games like Dino Crisis switch between 240p in game and 480i in menu which screws with some upscalers as you have a 5 second blackout each time you pause or go into the menu. Luckily not many games switch in game. PS2 supported 240p as well to make it compatible with PS1 games, but only a few games on PS2 used it. The Cave shooters like Dodonpachi daioujou/Espgaluga used 240p and so did the Wonderboy Sega Ages collection. But unfortunately a lot of other compilation games like Taito memories converted everything to 480i, which in almost every case reviewed said it ruined the game a bit. Rockman compilations on PS2 were converted to 480i, even though the PS1 version was 240p. Another game someone should review properly on PS1 is Motortoon Grand Prix 2. It was Polyphony's last game before starting Gran Turismo, the developer complained they didn't want to make Mariokart esque games they wanted to do a proper simulator. But one thing is for sure, even though Motortoon Grand Prix 2 didn't review well, to me it was absolutely fantastic as a showpiece. The game came with 2 discs for link up play (you only need disc one if your not playing link up). Its totally English friendly it has some of the best effects, tricks, animations, transparencies you ever likely to see on a PS1 game. The commentator is absolutely nuts. The controls are a bit floaty but you get used to it. Polyphony are the only Japanese dev left in Japan under Sony Computer Entertainment Japan so its a topic that might work for your channel.. cheap game, good history value, great PS1 effects and an absolute fun blast to watch someone play it. In the west it was simply Motortoon grand prix, as the original Japanese version never got released west side as it was just a demo really showing off effects. I doubt its more than Y1500. Before you review if you do, play until you see the transparent tracks.. I remember back in the day Saturn getting slated for not having transparencies, then Sexy Parodious would show off a tiny bit on Saturn, then you see Motortoon grand prix 2 fill the full screen full of transparencies, it feels like your on a rollercoaster and your stomach went. It was so impressive back in the day to me, I drove off the track, up the hill and just watched the other racers going round and round like a spectator.. CHECK IT OUT!

12:32 Stormlord, that game looks good graphically but it plays like crap, you expect action game but it is more timing based puzzle platformer.😒 13:18 Hyokkori Hyoutanjima: Daitouryou o Mezase!, took a bit of searching but a video board game title, the 1-4 players icon got me curious.😉 Yeah it's funny with the FDS aftermarket, you'd think someone would make an IDE solution for the adaptor by itself like so many optical drive platforms have now Ie. tricky to find reliable FDS disks, or ones with the labeled program on them often. I've been curious about FDS but I'm still weary of my mechanical drive repair skillset heh. I've been looking at "just boxes" lately in my Genesis collecting, actually hard to make it worthwhile price wise in piecing a game together when buying online Ie. might as well buy complete or in-box, but no shipping cost from a retail store could be favorable. At times it is like $30 to ship a manual which is just WTF.😄 Very cool to see some PCs, I'm a fan of the MSX2 and PC88/98 lines.😁First time seeing table top(well, folding table heh) gaming in Japan, mostly have that in figure/comic/game stores where I live.
@ScruffyLookinRGB
@ScruffyLookinRGB 4 ай бұрын
I also heard Stormlord had some controversy when it was it released due to some risque background graphics on some of the statues and such. I think they went back and clothed them. Yes, Hyokkori Hyoutanjima is one of thoese board game titles i think it was also a stop motion anime but i could be mistaken. FDS is fun to collect for. the repair for the drive is actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Ive got a nice video that shows you how to do it. Check it out here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXatkGCGic2Hba8feature=shared. I can understand not wanting to spend 30 USD just to ship over one manual. Its always good to get a couple of items to make it more worth the price of shipping. Yes seeing old Japanese PCs was very cool i love the look of the Sharp X1 and MSX. Yes its quite common to see dedicated space for table top gaming at many of these bigger surugaya locations and other places that sell retro games and cards etc.

@@ScruffyLookinRGB Yeah I think they took that out of the NA Stormlord version.😏 Oh a stop motion show too, interesting since often it's just an aesthetic choice for game covers. Yeah I'm probably being silly about FDS repair woes.🙂 Most people like the Sharp X68000 with its arcade perfect games but an expensive platform to collect. I shouldn't be surprised, a lot of Japanese video games with a card theme have come out in NA over the years so of coarse Warhammer is there too heh.

Japanese version is far better: there’s six more stages, several extra bosses, more items and more spells which are way easier to obtain as well. I also prefer the life icons (as you can find more to increase your survival) vs the life bar, because the lifebar in the US version moves down randomly. lol
