A little help for pronounciation: Pécs is closer to the pronounciation of "page" but more with a ch aending like in peach. So a combination of page and peach :)

Thanks for the information! I actually went around with someone who is from the city, but I must have misheard how they pronounced the city's name!

Do not worry it is far better than the usual mispronounciation like Pex. 🙂 Your way of pronouncing it is more like we pronounce Pest (like in Budapest) with a distinct sh sound at the end (if you cut the t off). So it shall be rather ch and the "e" is like in "page".

It is easy to just say it like it looks sometimes! I'd also learnt the Hungarians don't pronounce their Z's when following an S

@@traveldan1 Probably you misunderstand this. Unlike in English every letter in Hungarian is pronounced always the same way. There is no such a thing as sometimes we pronounce it sometime we do not, a letter is one and same sound always. We have 42 letters though and among them we have double and tripple letters. It is not unique, like in German they have sch as one letter and always pronounced as "sh". In Hungarian cs (like in Pécs) is one letter and pronouonced as "ch", sz is one letter (like in Szeged) and pronounced as "s", and zs is one letter (like in Zsolnay) and pronounced like the first consonant in the French name "Jean". So you just learn it once and know it for ever.

@@freebozkurt9277 sometimes things are easier than they might seem. That said, I'm a native English speaker and there's many places in England where I can barely understand the accents!
