The song itself doesn't get old, but all of these comments about the silent acting are. Please, the lyrics alone are poetry, and the orchestral accompaniment is fantastic. The acting only enhances the song. No actor was nominated for the Oscar, but the song "This is Me" was and won the Golden Globe for best song. The soundtrack of "Greatest Showman" went platinum only 3 months after the film was released, and it was the best-selling album of 2018 in all of the music industry. Just an absolutely amazing scene. Probably the climax of the film. They all have everything they want at the start of the scene, each character reaches for a little more and when the songs done, each character is more overwhelmed and distraught from before. Amazing!

I wasn't aware a film's climax occurred within the first 40 to 50 minutes of a film. Really says a lot about a movie. Also, they weren't distraught before. Who? Who was? Zac and Zendaya? They didn't even have a relationship at that point! I guess a single glance goes a long way.

This is one of the moments for me that solidified Hugh Jackman as one of the greatest actors of all time. The song is beautiful, don't get me wrong, and it goes EXTREMELY well with the storytelling aspect and Hugh's performance during his little moments in this song...MAN! He's simply reacting, but you can FEEL him react. He conveys emotion without speech. And I think that that is one of the best things about this movie. There were many moment without speaking or singing that had such impact...and this is the one that tops them all. And with his little moments along with the lyrics of the song made this one of the most powerful and impactful climaxes of all time. A turning point to be remembered!

Hugh's acting felt very sincere. This is why he's become my favorite actor. When he emotes, I feel it and can see into his soul. I can't say that about most current actors. He reminds me of the actors from the 1950s and 60s whom I really admired.

Besides the amazing vocal talent of Loren Allred, this scene says so much with no talking- PT's expressions, his wife noticing his reaction to Jenny, and Phillip having to let go of Anne's hand (well, his choice to) and seeing how much he regrets it. This scene says so much without actually speaking any lines.

I thought this was genuinely amazing. I left the movie feeling optimistic and hopeful for the first time in a very long time. All my cynical attidue, pessimistic outlook, and general hatred disappated afterwards. The message was amazing. It's opened me up again as a person... I had already closed myself off to world and judged it. But like the disney movies I loved as a kid, it has inspired emotion within me I just havn't felt in such a long time. This film is amazing, and the critics really don't understand the depth of emotion this film brings. Absoloutly loved it!

Samuel xD Townson - I think the producers of this movie, as well as Hugh Jackman, NEED to see your comment. I think you speak for many of us, Sam. And I'm so glad you came back from that place you were at. This movie has now surpassed The Sound of Music, in my eyes, to become my favorite movie, EVER. And I'm not talking about musicals, I'm talking about ALL movies. Every KZbin video; every time I listen to the soundtrack, I end up emotional all over again. I can't even get any of the songs out of my head, that's how much of an impact this movie has impressed on me. And I've only seen it once in theatres, lol. (I'm planning to go several more times!)

That's exactly how I felt, I've been going through bad depression and anxiety for nearly half my life and I just didn't want to deal with all this hate and anxiousness anymore and I was really considering again to end my life but that's when I saw this movie. I mean there have always been Movies that could make you happy for a few days again and all that but I was in total awe the whole movie, from start to finish, it just touched me a lot and I could also relate to many characters a lot and the way they portray things and emotions in this movie just felt so damn real to me and I finished the movie and I was able to believe in myself again and that there WILL BE a better time, there are so many magical things in this world and it's for you to find them, maybe in a place, maybe in a hobby, maybe in friends or a lover, we'll all find it. We have to stop with this hatred and have to stand up for ourselves and others. I really want to get one or two lyrics from their songs tattooed to remind me to always keep on fighting.And I've already started with some major changes in my life. THANK YOU for this movie. It means so incredible much too me. Sorry for the bad english I know it sounds cheesy to say that this movie might have saved my life, but I think it did.

матильда милито I think I read that the actress can sing although not as good as the orignal one. I also read she sang in the extras. Maybe she was really singing but they cut her voice. Because it really seems like its her who is singing. All the cast did a great job
@ines73666 жыл бұрын
It looks like she's singing because she actually is. She sang live for the extras (she went to a music school, and she can sing) but it was agreed that this should be sang by a professional singer, as it is such a powerful moment and the character that's being portrayed was the most acclaimed singer in Europe at the time. Rebecca (the actress) and Loren (the singer) coordinated their voices and movements to make it look more realistic. Both did a phenomenal job!! Not your usual lip synching, truly amazing! I would love to hear Rebecca's version, I'm sure it's great as well!

This is the moment that Barnum realises he can get an act who is "normal" to captivate an audience and bring him more fame and fortune...charity sees it as him falling for Jenny but all he sees are pound signs, and the song perfectly encapsulates the fact that all the stars and thousands of spot lights in the world will "never be enough" for him

Yes, I also fully agree. I'm also a guy, and this scene was so beautiful in the movie theater. People who haven't seen this film are only cheating themselves. You can only refer to this scene as magical. It's magic because you're magically transported into the scene, and the surround sound completely engulfs you. All of your senses are taken over by this beautiful song in the theater. It's one of the most beautiful scenes in film history, and I mean it. Listen, I'm a guy, and I have to admit that my eyes were watery as hell, even though I tried to hold myself back. As I looked over to the other people in the audience, I saw so many people pulling handkerchiefs and tissues out in unison. It was amazing. I've never experienced that when watching a film in the theater. This scene had gorgeous cinematography as well, and I almost completely lost it. Thank God I'm a guy and didn't break down completely. lol

@johndanielsforJesus6 жыл бұрын
Emily Mallory - there's a thing called "true love" that still happens in this world. I think Phillip and Anne found that. I realize we now live in a jaded and even more cynical world than before, but stuff like this still happens. This is what most little girls (and boys, to a certain extent) dream about when they're young; to find that prince or princess that sweeps them off their feet. That's why stories like this resonate so strongly with people, all around the world. We all are the same. We wanna find that "true love". EDIT: I meant to say, "love at first sight", not "true love", even though true love works as well.
@ladyyuni2186 жыл бұрын
I think it was more confident as you say...but more in a "now I know he truly cares for me" confident because he made the first move to stand by her, and then took her hand...publicly. That is why it was more devastating to her that he dropped her hand when his parents started looking, She looked him up and down like "who are you"?

That is what makes the love stories in this movie so fascinating, and why we keep watching the videos...because our world, and even the entertainment field is VOID of love, and has replaced it with arbitrary sexual acts. Everyone is giving their bodies, and no one is giving their hearts. In this movie you see "love" and no sex, in most other movies you see sex, and no love...smh! This is what I like about this movie!

She actually did sing it in the filming; she's really singing - it's just that the final cut had it sung by someone else

That look of Charity from the singer to her husband and back ( 3,00 - 3,05 ) is soooo real, tore my heart when I saw the movie for the first time.

Yes that pained look she had like she was realizing he was in awe or her and it could possibly lead to more. I felt for her in that scene too.

I completely agree. We only hear the song, but so much is said with their eyes and facial expressions. Outstanding acting and a breathtakingly beautiful song make this an amazingly powerful and extremely memorable scene. I'll never forget it. It's permanently etched in my mind's eye.
