I also watched Wackey Races and Catch the Pidgeon as a kid on Boomerang! And 'that cat' is Top Cat who also had a great show. The other Wacky Races spinoff, Perils of Penelope Pitstop was also really fun.

I feel so seen. I feel like I saw this show once and couldn’t find it again like it was some sort of weird feverdream. I’m so glad this is real and I’m not alone in really enjoying this.

I remember watching this show as a kid on boomerang and it was one of my favorites. There is just something charming about that period of animation and especially that show.

I could honestly see Wacky Races rebooted into a dramatic (yet not Riverdale level) cross-continental serialised show in the modern day. I wrote this before the reboots were mentioned lmao

Dick Dastardly is so iconic that people who’ve never seen his cartoons know who he is. He is so well designed that you immediately get an idea of who he is at first glance.
@KudoTsurugi4 ай бұрын
Funny thing is, Dastardly actually did win in Wacky Races by cheating once, by stretching the front of his car as he crossed the finish line. Of course, he got disqualified because of it and the trophy went to Penelope Pitstop(who herself got a spinoff show co-starring the Anthill Mob), but that just goes to show he’d win if he didn't pull the crazy shenanigans. I honestly think all his appearances in the other Hanna-Barbera shows were all the same guy until the 2017 Wacky Races pulled out the family tree card. But hey, there’s a bunch of different versions of Scooby-Doo around today, so why not let Dastardly in on that
@tru3vort3x24 ай бұрын
You also missed that he was on Jellystone! A show where a bunch of Hanna Barbara characters just chill and live in a town together. He was introduced in the 3rd season as the major of the rivaling town, and they teamed him up with other villain characters to trick the town of Jellystone

7:21 As an American, I can confirm that this is absolute BS, that Eagle made of solid gold is America's greatest treasure if I've ever seen it. The American spirit died with inflation lol.

You can trace various villains back to Dick Dastardly, even in Japan, as Wacky Races was really popular over there. Everyone from Waluigi to Yatterman's Boyakky of the Doronbo Gang, the latter of which also inspired the "terrible trio" archetype, you see countless anime & Japanese games usually for made for kids.
@Darisprites4 ай бұрын
He probably inspired Team Rocket too, if you consider the episodic hi-jinks, trap-settings, costumes and get-ups that are just so *extra*, animal sidekick, and repeated failure to capture a single creature.
@nicholasfarrell59814 ай бұрын
The best part about both iterations of _Wacky Races_ as far as I'm concerned is that the rest of the racers all just accept Dick as the borderline stereotype that he is without question. There's never really a point where they expect him to play fair, they just roll with his hijinks and let him be him.
@diablo.the.cheater4 ай бұрын
Yeah, he is more like part of the course than a participant since they disqualify him if he wins with cheats anyway. His shenanigans are obstacles that are an accepted part of the track by the other racers and part of the competition for the others.

I remember playing Wacky Races: Crash and Dash on my DS, my favorite mini game to play was the dot to dot mini game where you have to make a bridge for your racer to drive across. I liked it because of the cutscene and it has my favorite instance of Dastardly saying drat. I relay the script for anyone curious to know what happened… *we open on a bridge in the background and Mutley in the foreground with a plunger, the plunger has some wire going off into the background. Some smoke implied to be the other racers is getting closer to the bridge. We pan right to Dick Dastardly look through some binoculars at the bridge* Dick Dastardly: (looks at Mutley) There they are Mutley! Hurry, (points at bridge) blow it up! *Mutley pushes down on the plunger and bridge explodes, loud whistling can be heard instantly after. Dick Dastardly looks through his binoculars at where the bridge was and then looks higher and higher up until he’s looking directly above himself* Dick Dastardly: Oh drat me a river… (the wooden beams that make up the now destroyed bridge all fall on him) DRAT! (one final beam lands on the pile) *Mutley looks at the player and snickers* PS. I don’t know why but I always liked playing as Penelope Pitstop.
