They know what happened. It happened in Athena’s temple - she didn’t care about Medusa. She punished the victim since she couldn’t do anything to Poseidon and had her killed by her half-brother, Perseus.

The story of Poseidon raping Medusa went like this: Medusa was the prettiest girl in Athens, her brunette hair competed that with Athena, who didn’t like that one of her priestesses had better hair. Poseidon desired her, and being loyal to Athena, she declined. She was in Athena’s temple praying, when Poseidon got in and raped her in the sacred temple of Athena. Athena, angry at Poseidon and Medusa, turned Medusa into a monster, to look like her ugly gorgon sisters, since she couldn’t do anything to Poseidon. She then helped her half-brother, Perseus, to slay Medusa, who was pregnant and a monster named Chrysaor, and he’s depicted as a young warrior, winged boar, or a King in the Iberian Peninsula. He’s the father of Enchidna and Geryon. Pegasus was the other son to be born, who was a winged horse who ascended to the heavens for his obeisance to Zeus.
