One detail that is often overlooked is that Paul shaking John Coffey's hand before the execution is the only act of protest available to Paul, given that there is no way he could prove that John was innocent and John himself did not want to run away -- and refusing to carry out the execution would just have meant that someone else would have done it instead, and Paul would have been out of a job.

"We each owe a death - there are no exceptions - but, oh God, sometimes the Green Mile seems so long." Fun Fact: Originally set in 1932, the timeframe was bumped to 1935 so that the movie Top Hat (1935) could be featured. Jock Strap Incident Fact: Michael Clarke Duncan was uncomfortable with having to grab Tom Hanks' crotch for the scene where John cures Paul's urinary infection. Hanks left the set and came back to do the scene; Duncan grabbed Hanks' crotch and was shocked to discover that he had put an empty water bottle in his trousers. After that, Duncan felt more comfortable with the scene. Measuring Up Fact: In reality, Michael Clarke Duncan was of a similar height to his co-star David Morse, and was a couple of inches shorter than James Cromwell. Amongst other things, creative camera angles were used to create the illusion that Duncan, as John Coffey, towered over the prison staff, even "Brutal" Howell and Warden Moores. For one scene where Paul, Coffey and Brutal were in the same shot, Michael Clark Duncan was standing on a plank, David Morse stood on the ground, and Tom Hanks was standing in a trench dug into the ground just for that purpose.

In return for possibly reducing their sentence, or at least a kind word from the warden during parole hearings, the trustee helps the guards by performing tasks at the prison but outside the areas of confinement. This guy can afford to goof around since he's never going to be executed; he might even be up for parole soon. If Tom Hanks and the mouse was given extra years, surely the governors wife would live even longer?
@totallywhatever2 ай бұрын
Ohhh good point! That could even be a movie on its own what happens to these people after John Coffey intervenes in their lives!
@brianhouse82642 ай бұрын
Sorry but Paul touched on it. When he was holding the mouse during the execution is when the mouse got it. And when he shows Paul what Billy had done he had to give him a part so he could see it. Just being healed didn’t extend the life. Just so happens that the ones who were healed had other contacts with John that extended their lives.

I've enjoyed your reactions. Very genuine and endearing. One film you might enjoy is a Civil War-era love story called Cold Mountain, directed by Anthony Minghella. It's sad and contains some violence, of course, but it's also touching and very well acted. Great performances by Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Renee Zellweger, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, I believe. It's a great film, and I haven't seen many reactions to it. Good luck with the channel!

Hi ladies, Mike, new subscriber from Germany. You did greatly here, I like your format and editing. To answer one of your questions: one of the natively looking inmates was Graham Greene, a First Nations (Oneida) actor from Canada. You probably could know him from the Kevin Costner movie „Dances with wolves“ where he portrayed the Lakota medicine man „Kicking bird“? My best regards to you, Mike. 👍 Btw: the actor playing the „trustee“ was Harry Dean Stanton. I saw him the first time in „Alien“ (1979 by Ridley Scott).

Brutal, David Morse, is 6’5” same as Michael Clarke Duncan, but with risers and other tricks he appears much bigger. The bunk and electric chair were made smaller to give MCD a larger effect.

Wow, I was wondering how they made him look so much bigger. I know he's a tall guy but he was towering over everyone! Thanks!

Same writers directors producers and many actors also in the Shawshank redemption! Bonnie Hunt has been the best actress in Hollywood for 40 years but never gets leading roles. But what she did in Dave, and Jerry McGuire, is incredible! The old guy is Harry Dean Stanton. Bern in movies since black n white! From Dillinger to godfather 2, Red Dawn, the Hulk, this, u name it!

'Green Mile' is part of a traditional reaction trio with 'Saving Private Ryan' and 'The Shawshank Redemption.' Percy Wetmore is one of the greatest antagonist performances of all time. It's always fun to watch new reactors getting to know Percy.

Michael Clarke Duncan was 6”5’ and was only an inch taller than David Morse who played Brutal. So they had to make him appear bigger they made his cell and cell bed smaller then the others and the other actors walk on a lower level floor

THANK YOU for being understanding of the parents in the film. Other reactors on KZbin would get angry and curse the parents, one reactor even said she wanted the parents to be executed, which shows that their emotions are all shallow and surface level. They seem to forget that the parents lost two children and they squarely believe John Coffey did the crime. Thank you for letting viewers know that the parents are also deserved of sympathy and compassion.

Not a bad pick ladies 💚 Stephen King also writes drama, but my favorite King Drama for recommendations is Stand By Me, not sure if that story was based on his childhood. But it’s a great movie. And for Spooky King stories: - The Shining -Doctor Sleep - Christine ( directed by John. Carpenter) - Carrie - Children Of The Corn ( 80s version) -Cujo Just to name a few.
