I have written on Twitter why they go only with a stick. What if they come face to face with a tiger ? How will they protect themselves. In Manas I saw them wearing chappals . We have them lift in our jeep as they had no conveyance

I am really thankful to you for your concern . But I would like to emphasize that they are well trained and they can handle any situation including encountering a tiger or Leopard without any weapon . That's how they do petroleum all day and night for past so many years and practically no incidences of wild animal attacking a patrolling staff .
